Philippians 1:10-22

10so that you may 12discover the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and blameless for 3the day of Christ; 11having been filled with the 4fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.

12Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that my circumstances 5have turned out for the greater progress of the 6gospel, 13so that my 78imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the 9praetorian guard and to 10everyone else, 14and that most of the brothers and sisters, 11trusting in the Lord because of my 1213imprisonment, have 14far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. 1515Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even 16from envy and strife, but some also 17from goodwill; 16the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the 18gospel; 17the former proclaim Christ 19out of selfish ambition 20rather than from pure motives, thinking that they are causing me distress in my 2122imprisonment. 18What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice.

But not only that, I also will rejoice, 19for I know that this will turn out for my 23deliverance 24through your 25prayers and the provision of 26the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20according to my 27eager expectation and 28hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with 29all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be 30exalted in my body, 31whether by life or by death. 21For to me, 32to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 2233But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean 34fruitful labor for me; and I do not know 35which to choose.
