Matthew 1:13-22
13Zerubbabel fathered 1Abihud, Abihud fathered Eliakim, and Eliakim fathered Azor. 14Azor fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Achim, and Achim fathered Eliud. 15Eliud fathered Eleazar, Eleazar fathered Matthan, and Matthan fathered Jacob. 16Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, 2who is called the 3Messiah.
17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the 4deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the 5deportation to Babylon to the 6Messiah, fourteen generations.
18Now the birth of Jesus the 7Messiah was as follows: when His 8mother Mary had been 9betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was 10found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 19And her husband Joseph, since he was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her, planned to 1112send her away secretly. 20But when he had thought this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “13Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for 14the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a Son; and 15you shall name Him Jesus, for 16He 17will save His people from their sins.” 22Now all this 18took place so that what was 19spoken by the Lord through 20the prophet would be fulfilled:
