Lamentations 2:11-18
11My 1eyes fail because of tears, My 23spirit is greatly troubled; My 45heart is poured out on the earth 6Because of the 7destruction of the daughter of my people, When 8little ones and infants languish In the streets of the city.12They say to their mothers, “9Where is grain and wine?” As they faint like a wounded person In the streets of the city, As their 10lives are poured out 11In their mothers’ arms.13How shall I admonish you? What 12shall I compare to you, Daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I liken to you as I comfort you, 13Virgin daughter of Zion? For your collapse is as vast as the sea; Who can 14heal you?14Your 15prophets have seen for you Worthless and deceptive visions; And they have not 16exposed your wrongdoing So as to restore you from captivity, But they have 17seen for you worthless and misleading pronouncements.15All who pass along the way 18Clap their hands in ridicule at you; They 1920hiss and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem: “Is this the city of which they said, ‘21Perfect in beauty, 22A joy to all the earth’?”16All 23your enemies Have opened their mouths wide against you; They 24hiss and 25gnash their teeth. They say, “We have 26engulfed her! This certainly is the 27day which we awaited; We have reached it, we have seen it!”17The Lord has 28done what He determined; He has accomplished His word Which He commanded from days of old. He has torn down 29without sparing, And He has helped the enemy to 30rejoice over you; He has 31exalted the 32might of your adversaries.18Their 33heart cried out to the Lord: “You 34wall of the daughter of Zion, Let your 35tears stream down like a river day and night; Give yourself no relief, Let 36your eyes have no rest.
