John 19:36-42

36For these things took place 1so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “2Not a bone of Him shall be 3broken.” 37And again another Scripture says, “4They will look at Him whom they pierced.”

38Now 5after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a 6secret one for 7fear of the 8Jews, requested of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body. 39 9Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, 10bringing a 11mixture of 12myrrh and aloes, about a 13 14hundred litras weight. 40So they took the body of Jesus and 15bound it in 16linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. 41Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden was a 17new tomb 18in which no one had yet been laid. 42Therefore because of the Jewish day of 19preparation, since the tomb was 20nearby, they laid Jesus there.
