Context of Daniel 12:12

10Many will be purged, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand. 11And from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Blessed is the one who is patient and attains to the 1,335 days! 13But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will rest and rise for your allotted portion at the end of the age.”

Commentaries on Daniel 12:12

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12Blessed is he that waiteth - He who implicitly depends on God, expecting, as his truth cannot fail, that these predictions shall be accomplished in due time. And cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days - This is seventy-five days more than what is included in the three years and a half, or the time, times, and a half in the seventh verse; and as we have met with so many instances of prophets days and years, this undoubtedly is…Read the comment
• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Blessed is he that waiteth - This indicates a patient expectation of an event that was to occur, and the happy state of him who would reach it. The angel refers to another period different from the “time, and times, and an half,” and different also from the twelve hundred and ninety days. He speaks of this as the consummation - as the desirable time; and pronounces him blessed who shall be permitted to see it. The idea here is, that of one looking out for…Read the comment
• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 5-13Verses 5-13 One of the angels asking how long it should be to the end of these wonders, a solemn reply is made, that it would be for a time, times, and a half, the period mentioned Dn 7:25, and in the Revelation. It signifies 1260 prophetic days or years, beginning from the time when the power of the holy people should be scattered. The imposture of Mohammed, and the papal usurpation, began about the same time; and these were a twofold attack upon the…Read the comment

God's people must wait and stay faithful when the end times come. 1,290 days … 1,335 days: Some interpreters think these numbers relate to events during the reign of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Others believe they are symbolic. The number 1,290 equals 43 lunar months of 30 days each, which is about three and a half years in the solar calendar. This might…Read the comment
• Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-13Compare Da 12:4, 13; as Da 12:6, 7 refer to Da 7:25, that is, to the time of Antichrist, so the subsequent Da 12:8-12 treat of the time of Antiochus (compare Da 12:11 with Da 11:31), thus putting together in one summary view the two great periods of distress. The political resurrection of the Jews under the Maccabees is the starting-point of transition to the literal resurrection about to follow the destruction of Antichrist by Christ's coming in glory…Read the comment
