21Sons were born to David in Hebron: his firstborn was Amnon, by 2Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; 3and his second, Chileab, by Abigail the 3widow of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of 4Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of 5Geshur; 4and the fourth, 6Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital; 5and the sixth, Ithream, by David’s wife Eglah. These sons were born to David in Hebron.
6Now it happened that while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, 7Abner was 8strengthening himself in the house of Saul.
