1 Peter 3:8-17
81To sum up, 2all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, 34loving, 5compassionate, and 6humble; 97not returning evil for evil or 8insult for insult, but giving a 9blessing instead; for 10you were called for the very purpose that you would 11inherit a blessing. 10For, “12The one who desires life, to love and see good days, Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.1113He must turn away from evil and do good; He must seek peace and pursue it.1214For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, And His ears attend to their prayer, But the face of the Lord is against evildoers.”
1315And who is 16there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 14But even if you should 17suffer for the sake of righteousness, 18you 19are blessed. 20And do not fear their 21intimidation, and do not be in dread, 15but 22sanctify 23Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready 24to make a 25defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the 26hope that is in you, but 27with gentleness and 28respect; 1629and keep a 30good conscience so that in the thing in which 31you are slandered, those who disparage your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame. 17For 32it is better, 33if 34God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.
