Context of Zechariah 1:14
12Then the angel of the Lord said, “O Lord of hosts, how long will You have no compassion for Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been indignant these seventy years?” 13The Lord answered the angel who was speaking with me with gracious words, comforting words. So the angel who was speaking with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and Zion. 15But I am very angry with the nations who are at ease; for while I was only a little angry, they furthered the disaster.” 16Therefore thus says the Lord, “I will return to Jerusalem with compassion; My house will be built in it,” declares the Lord of hosts, “and a measuring line will be stretched over Jerusalem.”’

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14Cry thou - The vision was not for the prophet alone. What he saw and heard, that he was to proclaim to others. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-17Verses 7-17 The prophet saw a dark, shady grove, hidden by hills. This represented the low, melancholy condition of the Jewish church. Though the church was in a low condition, Christ was present in the midst, ready to appear for the relief of his people. Behind him were angels ready to be employed by him, some in acts of judgment, others of mercy, others in mixed events…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14I am very jealous: This phrase shows intense devotion. It can lead to hatred and envy or zeal and dedication. God is jealous because, as the one true and living God, he has exclusive rights to his creatures' worship (see Exodus 20:5; 34:14). Jerusalem represents the areas ruled by Judean kings, and Mount Zion was where the Lord's temple stood.Read the comment
