The Words of Agur

The wordsH1697 of AgurH94 the sonH1121 of JakehH3348, the 1oracleH4853.

The manH1397 declaresH5002 to IthielH384, to IthielH384 and UcalH401:2SurelyH3588 I am moreH4480 2stupidH1198 thanH4480 anyH376 manH376, And I do not have the understandingH998 of a manH120.3NeitherH3808 have I learnedH3925 wisdomH2451, NorH3808 do I haveH3045 the 3knowledgeH1847 of the HolyH6918 OneH6918.4WhoH4310 has 4ascendedH5927 into heavenH8064 and descendedH3381? WhoH4310 has gatheredH622 the 5windH7307 in His fistsH2651? WhoH4310 has 6wrappedH6887 the watersH4325 in 7His garmentH8071? WhoH4310 has 8establishedH6965 allH3605 the endsH657 of the earthH776? WhatH4100 is His 9nameH8034 or His son’sH1121 nameH8034? SurelyH3588 you knowH3045!

EveryH3605 10wordH565 of GodH433 is testedH6884; He is a 11shieldH4043 to those who takeH2620 refugeH2620 in Him.612Do not addH3254 to His wordsH1697 OrH6435 He will reproveH3198 you, and you will be provedH3576 a liarH3576.

TwoH8147 thingsH8147 I askedH7592 of You, Do not refuseH4513 me beforeH2962 I dieH4191:8KeepH7368 deceptionH7723 and 13liesH3577 farH7368 from me, GiveH5414 me neitherH408 povertyH7389 norH408 richesH6239; FeedH2963 me with the 14foodH3899 that is my portionH2706,9That I not be 15fullH7646 and denyH3584 16You and sayH559, “WhoH4310 is the LordH3068?” Or that I not be 17in wantH3423 and stealH1589, And 18profaneH8610 the nameH8034 of my GodH430.

Do not slanderH3960 a slaveH5650 to his masterH113, OrH6435 he will 19curseH7043 you and you will be foundH816 guiltyH816.

There is a 20kindH1755 of man who 21cursesH7043 his fatherH1 And does not blessH1288 his motherH517.12There is a 22kindH1755 who is 23pureH2889 in his own eyesH5869, Yet is not washedH7364 from his filthinessH6675.13There is a 24kindH1755--oh howH4100 25loftyH7311 are his eyesH5869! And his eyelidsH6079 are raisedH5375 in arrogance.14There is a 26kindH1755 of man whose 27teethH8127 are like swordsH2719 And his 28jawH4973 teethH4973 like knivesH3979, To 29devourH398 the afflictedH6041 from the earthH776 And the needyH34 from among menH120.

The leechH5936 has twoH8147 daughtersH1323, “GiveH3051,” “GiveH3051.” ThereH1992 are threeH7969 thingsH7969 that will not be satisfiedH7646, FourH702 that will not sayH559, “EnoughH1952”:163031SheolH7585, and the 32barrenH6115 wombH7358, EarthH776 that is neverH3808 satisfiedH7646 with waterH4325, And fireH784 that neverH3808 saysH559, “EnoughH1952.”17The eyeH5869 that 33mocksH3932 a fatherH1 And 3435scornsH936H3349 a motherH517, The 36ravensH6158 of the valleyH5158 will pickH5365 it out, And the youngH1121 37eaglesH5404 will eatH398 it.

ThereH1992 are threeH7969 thingsH7969 which are tooH4480 wonderfulH6381 for me, FourH702 which I do not understandH3045:19The wayH1870 of an 38eagleH5404 in the skyH8064, The wayH1870 of a serpentH5175 on a rockH6697, The wayH1870 of a shipH591 in the middleH3820 of the seaH3220, And the wayH1870 of a manH1397 with a maidH5959.20ThisH3651 is the wayH1870 of an 39adulterousH5003 womanH802: She eatsH398 and wipesH4229 her mouthH6310, And saysH559, “I have doneH6466 noH3808 wrongH205.”

UnderH8478 threeH7969 thingsH7969 the earthH776 quakesH7264, And underH8478 fourH702, it cannotH3201H3808 bearH5375 up:22UnderH8478 a 40slaveH5650 whenH3588 he becomesH4427 kingH4427, And a foolH5036 whenH3588 he is satisfiedH7646 with foodH3899,23UnderH8478 an unlovedH8130 woman whenH3588 she getsH1166 a husbandH1166, And a maidservantH8198 whenH3588 she supplantsH3423 her mistressH1404.

FourH702 thingsH702 are smallH6996 on the earthH776, But they are exceedinglyH2449 wiseH2450:25The 41antsH5244 are not a strongH5794 peopleH5971, But they prepareH3559 their foodH3899 in the summerH7019;26The 4243shephanimH8227 are not mightyH6099 peopleH5971, Yet they makeH7760 their housesH1004 in the rocksH5553;27The locustsH697 haveH369 noH369 kingH4428, Yet allH3605 of them goH3318 out in 44ranksH2686;28The lizardH8079 you may graspH8610 with the handsH3027, Yet it is in kings’H4428 palacesH1964.

ThereH1992 are threeH7969 thingsH7969 which are statelyH3190 in their marchH6806, Even fourH702 which are statelyH3190 when they walkH1980:30The lionH3918 which is 45mightyH1368 among beastsH929 And does not 4647retreatH7725 beforeH4480H6440 anyH3605,31The 48struttingH2223H4975 roosterH4975, the maleH8495 goatH8495 alsoH176, And a kingH4428 when his armyH510 is with him.

IfH518 you have beenH5034 foolishH5034 in exaltingH5375 yourself Or ifH518 you have plottedH2161 evil, 49put your handH3027 on your mouthH6310.33For the 50churningH4330 of milkH2461 producesH3318 butterH2529, And pressingH4330 the noseH639 bringsH3318 forthH3318 bloodH1818; So the 51churningH4330 of 52angerH639 producesH3318 strifeH7379.
