30The sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478wentוַיַּעֲל֧וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927up againstאֶל־'el-H413the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֖ןvin.ya.MinH1144on the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑יha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117and arrayedוַיַּעַרְכ֥וּvai.ya.'ar.KhuH6186themselves againstאֶל־'el-H413Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֖הha.giv.'AhH1390as at otherכְּפַ֥עַםke.Fa.'amH6471timesבְּפָֽעַם׃be.Fa.'amH6471.

31The sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִן֙vin.ya.MinH1144wentוַיֵּצְא֤וּvai.ye.tze.'UH3318outagainstלִקְרַ֣אתlik.RatH7122the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and were drawnH5423awayהָנְתְּק֖וּha.ne.te.KuH5423from the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892,and they beganוַיָּחֵ֡לּוּvai.ya.Che.luH2490to strikeלְהַכּוֹת֩le.ha.kOtH5221and killH5221someמִן־min-H4480of the peopleמֵהָעָ֨םme.ha.'AmH5971as at otherכְּפַ֣עַם׀ke.Fa.'amH6471timesבְּפַ֗עַםbe.Fa.'amH6471,on the highwaysבַּֽמְסִלּוֹת֙bam.si.lOtH4546,oneאַחַ֜ת'a.ChatH259of whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834goesעֹלָ֣ה'o.LahH5927up to BethelH1008and the otherוְאַחַ֤תve.'a.ChatH259to Gibeahגִּבְעָ֙תָה֙giv.'A.tahH1390, andin the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֔הba.sa.DehH7704,about thirtyכִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥יםkish.lo.ShimH7970menאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376of Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃be.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

32The sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֔ןvin.ya.MinH1144saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “They are struckH5062downH5062beforeלְפָנֵ֖ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440us, as at the firstכְּבָרִאשֹׁנָ֑הke.va.ri.sho.NahH7223.”But the sonsוּבְנֵ֧יu.ve.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֣לYis.ra.'ElH3478saidאָמְר֗וּ'a.me.RuH559, “Let us fleeנָנ֙וּסָה֙na.Nu.sahH5127that we may drawH5423them awayוּֽנְתַקְּנֻ֔הוּu.ne.ta.ke.Nu.huH5423from the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892to the highwaysהַֽמְסִלּֽוֹת׃Ham.si.LotH4546.”

33Then allוְכֹ֣ל׀ve.KholH3605the menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478aroseקָ֚מוּKa.muH6965from their placeמִמְּקוֹמ֔וֹmi.me.ko.MoH4725and arrayedוַיַּעַרְכ֖וּvai.ya.'ar.KhuH6186themselves at Baal-tamarH1193;and the men of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478in ambushוְאֹרֵ֧בve.'o.RevH693brokeמֵגִ֥יחַme.Gi.achH1518out of their placeמִמְּקֹמ֖וֹmi.me.ko.MoH4725,even out of Maareh-gebaגָֽבַע׃Ga.va'H4626 H1387.

34When tenעֲשֶׂרֶת֩'a.se.RetH6235thousandאֲלָפִ֨ים'a.la.FimH505choiceבָּחוּר֙ba.ChurH977menאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376from allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478cameוַיָּבֹאוּ֩vai.ya.vo.'UH935againstמִנֶּ֨גֶדmi.Ne.gedH5048Gibeahלַגִּבְעָ֜הla.giv.'AhH1390,the battleוְהַמִּלְחָמָ֖הve.ha.mil.cha.MahH4421becameH3513fierceH3513; butBenjamin did not knowיָדְע֔וּya.de.'UH3045thatdisasterH7463wascloseנֹגַ֥עַתno.Ga.'atH5060to them.

37the men in ambushוְהָאֹרֵ֣בve.ha.'o.RevH693hurriedהֵחִ֔ישׁוּhe.Chi.shuH2363and rushedוַֽיִּפְשְׁט֖וּvai.yif.she.TuH6584againstאֶל־'el-H413Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֑הha.giv.'AhH1390;the men in ambushהָאֹרֵ֔בha.'o.RevH693also deployedוַיִּמְשֹׁךְ֙vai.yim.shoKhH4900and struckוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָֽרֶב׃Cha.revH2719.

38Now the appointedוְהַמּוֹעֵ֗דve.ha.mo.'EdH4150signH4150between the menלְאִ֥ישׁle.'IshH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and the men in ambushהָאֹרֵ֑בha.'o.RevH693wasthat they would make a greatהֶ֕רֶבHe.revH7235cloudמַשְׂאַ֥תmas.'AtH4864of smokeהֶעָשָׁ֖ןhe.'a.ShanH6227riseלְהַעֲלוֹתָ֛םle.ha.'a.lo.TamH5927from the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

39Then the menH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478turnedוַיַּהֲפֹ֥ךְvai.ya.ha.FokhH2015in the battleבַּמִּלְחָמָ֑הba.mil.cha.MahH4421,and Benjaminוּבִנְיָמִ֡ןu.vin.ya.MinH1144beganהֵחֵל֩he.ChelH2490to strikeלְהַכּ֨וֹתle.ha.KotH5221and killחֲלָלִ֤יםcha.la.LimH5221 H2491about thirtyכִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֣יםkish.lo.ShimH7970menH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478,for they saidאָמְר֔וּ'a.me.RuH559, “Surelyאַךְ֩ נִגּ֨וֹף'aKh ni.GofH389 H5062they aredefeatedנִגָּ֥ףni.GafH5062beforeלְפָנֵ֔ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440us, as in the firstהָרִאשֹׁנָֽה׃ha.ri.sho.NahH7223battleכַּמִּלְחָמָ֖הka.mil.cha.MahH4421.”

40But when the cloudוְהַמַּשְׂאֵ֗תve.ha.mas.'EtH4864beganהֵחֵ֛לָּהhe.Che.lahH2490to riseלַעֲל֥וֹתla.'a.LotH5927from the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892in a columnעַמּ֣וּד'a.MudH5982of smokeעָשָׁ֑ן'a.ShanH6227,Benjaminבִּנְיָמִן֙bin.ya.MinH1144lookedוַיִּ֤פֶןvai.Yi.fenH6437behindאַחֲרָ֔יו'a.cha.RavH310them; and beholdוְהִנֵּ֛הve.hi.NehH2009,the wholeכְלִיל־khe.lil-H3632cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892was goingעָלָ֥ה'a.LahH5927up in smoketo heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃ha.sha.Ma.ye.mahH8064.

41Then the menוְאִ֤ישׁve.'IshH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478turnedהָפַ֔ךְha.FakhH2015,and the menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֑ןbin.ya.MinH1144were terrifiedוַיִּבָּהֵ֖לvai.yi.ba.HelH926;for they sawרָאָ֔הra.'AhH7200thatdisasterH7463wascloseנָגְעָ֥הna.ge.'AhH5060to them.
