1Now there wasa famineרָעָב֩ra.'AvH7458in the daysבִּימֵ֨יbi.MeiH3117of Davidדָוִ֜דda.VidH1732for threeשָׁלֹ֣שׁsha.LoshH7969yearsשָׁנִ֗יםsha.NimH8141,yearשָׁנָה֙sha.NahH8141afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310yearשָׁנָ֔הsha.NahH8141; andDavidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732soughtוַיְבַקֵּ֥שׁvay.va.KeshH1245the presenceפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the Lordיְהוָ֑ה סYah.wehH3068.And the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “It is for Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586and his bloodyהַדָּמִ֔יםha.da.MimH1818houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004,becauseעַל־ אֲשֶׁר־'al- 'a.Sher-H5921 H834he putהֵמִ֖יתhe.MitH4191the Gibeonitesהַגִּבְעֹנִֽים׃ha.giv.'o.NimH1393to deathH4191.”

2So the kingהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121the Gibeonitesלַגִּבְעֹנִ֖יםla.giv.'o.NimH1393and spokeוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them (now the Gibeonitesוְהַגִּבְעֹנִ֞יםve.ha.giv.'o.NimH1393were not of the sonsמִבְּנֵ֧יmi.be.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֣לYis.ra.'ElH3478but of the remnantמִיֶּ֣תֶרmi.Ye.terH3499of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567, andthe sonsוּבְנֵ֤יu.ve.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478madeH7650a covenantH7650with them, but Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586had soughtוַיְבַקֵּ֤שׁvay.va.KeshH1245tokillלְהַכֹּתָ֔םle.ha.ko.TamH5221them in his zealבְּקַנֹּאת֥וֹbe.ka.no.ToH7065for the sonsלִבְנֵֽי־liv.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and Judahוִיהוּדָֽה׃vi.hu.DahH3063).

3Thus Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the Gibeonitesהַגִּבְעֹנִ֔יםha.giv.'o.NimH1393, “Whatמָ֥הmahH4100should I doאֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה'e.'e.SehH6213for you? And howוּבַמָּ֣הu.va.MahH4100can I makeאֲכַפֵּ֔ר'a.kha.PerH3722atonementH3722that you may blessוּבָרְכ֖וּu.va.re.KhuH1288the inheritanceנַחֲלַ֥תna.cha.LatH5159of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068?”

4Then the Gibeonitesהַגִּבְעֹנִ֗יםha.giv.'o.NimH1393saidוַיֹּ֧אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “We haveH369noH369concernof silverכֶּ֤סֶףKe.sefH3701or goldוְזָהָב֙ve.za.HavH2091with Saulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586or his houseבֵּית֔וֹbei.ToH1004,norH369is it for us to putלְהָמִ֣יתle.ha.MitH4191anyH376manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376to deathH4191in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”And he saidוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I will doאֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה'e.'e.SehH6213for you whateverמָֽה־mah-H4100you sayאֹמְרִ֖ים'o.me.RimH559.”

5So they saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559to the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428, “The manהָאִישׁ֙ha.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834consumedכִּלָּ֔נוּki.La.nuH3615us and whoוַאֲשֶׁ֖רva.'a.SherH834plannedדִּמָּה־di.mah-H1819to exterminateנִשְׁמַ֕דְנוּnish.Mad.nuH8045us from remainingמֵֽהִתְיַצֵּ֖בme.hit.ya.TzevH3320within anyבְּכָל־be.kholH3605borderגְּבֻ֥לge.VulH1366of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478,

6let sevenשִׁבְעָ֤הshiv.'AhH7651menH376from his sonsמִבָּנָ֔יוmi.ba.NavH1121be givenיֻתַּןye.na.ton-H5414to us, and we willhangוְהוֹקַֽעֲנוּם֙ve.ho.ka.'a.NumH3363thembefore the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068in Gibeahבְּגִבְעַ֥תbe.giv.'AtH1390of Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586,the chosenבְּחִ֣ירbe.ChirH972of the Lordיְהוָ֑ה סYah.wehH3068.”And the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I will giveאֶתֵּֽן׃'e.TenH5414them.”

7But the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428sparedוַיַּחְמֹ֣לvai.yach.MolH2550MephiboshethH4648,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֣ןye.ho.na.TanH3083the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586,becauseH5921of the oathשְׁבֻעַ֤תshe.vu.'AtH7621of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834was betweenH996them, betweenH996Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732and Saul’sשָׁאֽוּל׃sha.'UlH7586sonבֶּן־ben-H1121Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֥ןye.ho.na.TanH3083.

8So the kingהַמֶּ֡לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947the twoשְׁ֠נֵיShe.neiH8147sonsבְּנֵ֨יbe.NeiH1121ofRizpahרִצְפָּ֤הritz.PahH7532the daughterבַת־vat-H1323of Aiahאַיָּה֙'ai.YahH345,Armoniאַרְמֹנִ֖י'ar.mo.NiH764and Mephiboshethמְפִבֹ֑שֶׁתme.fi.Vo.shetH4648whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834she had borneיָלְדָ֣הYal.dahH3205to Saulלְשָׁא֔וּלle.sha.'UlH7586,and the fiveחֲמֵ֗שֶׁתcha.Me.shetH2568sonsבְּנֵי֙be.NeiH1121ofMerabH4764the daughterבַּת־bat-H1323of Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586,whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834she had borneיָלְדָ֛הYal.dahH3205to Adrielלְעַדְרִיאֵ֥לle.'ad.ri.'ElH5741the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Barzillaiבַּרְזִלַּ֖יbar.zi.LaiH1271theMeholathiteהַמְּחֹלָתִֽי׃ha.me.cho.la.TiH4259.

9Then he gaveוַֽיִּתְּנֵ֞םvai.yi.te.NemH5414them into the handsבְּיַ֣דbe.YadH3027of the Gibeonitesהַגִּבְעֹנִ֗יםha.giv.'o.NimH1393, and theyhangedוַיֹּקִיעֻ֤םvai.yo.ki.'UmH3363them in the mountainבָּהָר֙ba.HarH2022beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,so that the sevenשְׁבַעְתָּ֖םshi.va'.ta.yimH7651of them fellוַיִּפְּל֥וּvai.yi.pe.LuH5307togetherיָ֑חַדYa.chadH3162;and they were putהֻמְת֜וּhum.TuH4191to deathH4191in the firstבָּרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔יםba.Ri.sho.NimH7223daysבִּימֵ֤יbi.MeiH3117of harvestקָצִיר֙ka.TzirH7105atthe beginningבִּתְחִלַּ֖תbi.te.chi.latH8462of barleyשְׂעֹרִֽים׃se.'o.RimH8184harvestקְצִ֥ירke.TzirH7105.

10And Rizpahרִצְפָּה֩ritz.PahH7532the daughterבַת־vat-H1323of Aiahאַיָּ֨ה'ai.YahH345tookוַתִּקַּ֣חva.ti.KachH3947sackclothהַשַּׂ֜קha.SakH8242and spreadוַתַּטֵּ֨הוּva.ta.Te.huH5186it for herself on the rockהַצּוּר֙ha.TzurH6697,from the beginningמִתְּחִלַּ֣תmi.te.chi.LatH8462of harvestקָצִ֔ירka.TzirH7105untilעַ֛ד'adH5704it rainedנִתַּךְ־ni.takh-H5413on them from the skyהַשָּׁמָ֑יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064; and sheallowedנָתְנָה֩na.te.NahH5414neitherH3808the birdsע֨וֹףofH5775of the skyהַשָּׁמַ֜יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064to restלָנ֤וּחַla.Nu.achH5117on them by dayיוֹמָ֔םyo.MamH3119norH3808the beastsH2421of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֖הha.sa.DehH7704by nightלָֽיְלָה׃La.ye.lahH3915.

11When it was toldוַיֻּגַּ֖דvai.yu.GadH5046Davidלְדָוִ֑דle.da.VidH1732whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Rizpahרִצְפָּ֥הritz.PahH7532the daughterבַת־vat-H1323of Aiahאַיָּ֖ה'ai.YahH345,the concubineפִּלֶ֥גֶשׁpi.Le.geshH6370of Saulשָׁאֽוּל׃sha.'UlH7586,had doneעָשְׂתָ֛ה'a.se.TahH6213,

12then Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and tookוַיִּקַּ֞חvai.yi.KachH3947the bonesעַצְמ֤וֹתatz.MotH6106of Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586and the bonesעַצְמוֹת֙'atz.mOtH6106of Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֣ןye.ho.na.TanH3083his sonבְּנ֔וֹbe.NoH1121from the menבַּעֲלֵ֖יba.'a.LeiH1167of Jabesh-gileadיָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֑דya.Veish gil.'AdH3003 H1568,whoאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834had stolenגָּנְב֨וּga.ne.VuH1589them from the openמֵרְחֹ֣בme.re.ChoH7339squareH7339ofBeth-shanH1052,whereאֲשֶׁ֨ר שָׁ֙מָּה֙'a.Sher sham.hH834 H8033the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםha.pe.lish.timH6430had hangedH8518them on the dayבְּי֨וֹםbe.YomH3117the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛יםpe.lish.TimH6430struckH5221downהַכּ֧וֹתha.KotH5221Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586in Gilboaבַּגִּלְבֹּֽעַ׃ba.gil.Bo.a'H1533.

13He broughtוַיַּ֤עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927up the bonesעַצְמ֣וֹתatz.MotH6106of Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586and the bonesעַצְמ֖וֹתatz.MotH6106of Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֣ןye.ho.na.TanH3083his sonבְּנ֑וֹbe.NoH1121from thereמִשָּׁם֙mi.ShamH8033,and they gatheredוַיַּ֣אַסְפ֔וּvai.Ya.'as.FuH622the bonesעַצְמ֖וֹתatz.MotH6106of those who had beenhangedהַמּוּקָעִֽים׃ha.mu.ka.'ImH3363.

14They buriedוַיִּקְבְּר֣וּvai.yik.be.RuH6912the bonesעַצְמוֹת־'atz.mot-H6106of Saulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586and Jonathanוִיהוֹנָֽתָן־vi.ho.na.ton-H3083his sonבְּ֠נוֹbe.noH1121in the countryבְּאֶ֨רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֜ןbin.ya.MinH1144inZelaבְּצֵלָ֗עbe.tze.La'H6762,in the graveבְּקֶ֙בֶר֙be.Ke.verH6913of Kishקִ֣ישׁkishH7027his fatherאָבִ֔יו'a.VivH1;thus they didוַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213allכֹּ֥לkolH3605that the kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428commandedצִוָּ֖הtzi.VahH6680,and afterאַֽחֲרֵי־'a.cha.rei-H310thatGodאֱלֹהִ֛ים'E.lo.HimH430was movedH6279by prayerH6279for the landלָאָ֖רֶץla.'A.retzH776.
