14Now he wentH5674throughH5674allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֣יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478to AbelH59,even Beth-maacahH1038,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the Beritesהַבֵּרִ֑ים סha.be.RimH1276;and they were gatheredוַיִּקָּ֣הֲל֔וּvai.yik.le.huH6950together and alsoאַף־'af-H637wentוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935afterאַחֲרָֽיו׃'a.cha.RavH310him.

15They cameוַיָּבֹ֜אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935and besiegedוַיָּצֻ֣רוּ עָלָ֗יוvai.ya.Tzu.ru 'a.LavH6696 H5921him inAbelH62Beth-maacahH1038, and theycastוַיִּשְׁפְּכ֤וּvai.yish.pe.KhuH8210up a siegeH5550rampH5550againstאֶל־'el-H413the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,and it stoodוַֽתַּעֲמֹ֖דva.ta.'a.ModH5975by the rampartבַּחֵ֑לba.ChelH2426;and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were with Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097were wreakingH7843destructionH7843in order to toppleלְהַפִּ֥ילle.ha.PilH5307the wallהַחוֹמָֽה׃ha.cho.MahH2346.

16Thena wiseחֲכָמָ֖הcha.kha.MahH2450womanאִשָּׁ֥ה'i.ShahH802calledוַתִּקְרָ֛אva.tik.Ra'H7121from the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892, “Hearשִׁמְע֤וּshim.'UH8085,hearשִׁמְעוּ֙shim.'UH8085!Pleaseנָ֣אna'H4994tellאִמְרוּ־'im.ru-H559Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097, ‘Comeקְרַ֣בke.RavH7126hereעַד־ הֵ֔נָּה'ad- He.nahH5704 H2008that I may speakוַאֲדַבְּרָ֖הva.'a.da.be.RahH1696with you.’”

17So he approachedוַיִּקְרַ֣בvai.yik.RavH7126her, and the womanהָאִשָּׁ֛הha.'i.ShahH802saidוַתֹּ֧אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Are you Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097?”And he answeredוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I am.” Then she saidוַתֹּ֣אמֶרva.To.merH559to him, “Listenשְׁמַע֙she.Ma'H8085to the wordsדִּבְרֵ֣יdiv.ReiH1697of your maidservantאֲמָתֶ֔ךָ'a.ma.Te.khaH519.”And he answeredוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I am listeningשֹׁמֵ֥עַsho.Me.a'H8085.”

18Then she spokeוַתֹּ֖אמֶרva.To.merH559,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Formerlyבָרִֽאשֹׁנָה֙va.ri.sho.NahH7223they used to sayלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘They will surelyשָׁאֹ֧לsha.'OlH7592askיְשָׁאֲל֛וּye.sha.'a.LuH7592adviceat Abelבְּאָבֵ֖לbe.'a.VelH59,’and thusוְכֵ֥ןve.KhenH3651they endedהֵתַֽמּוּ׃he.Ta.muH8552the dispute.

19I am of those who are peaceableשְׁלֻמֵ֖יshe.lu.MeiH7999andfaithfulH539in Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.You are seekingמְבַקֵּ֗שׁme.va.KeshH1245to destroyלְהָמִ֨יתle.ha.MitH4191a cityעִ֤יר'irH5892,even a motherוְאֵם֙ve.'EmH517in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.Whyלָ֥מָּהLa.mahH4100would you swallowתְבַלַּ֖עte.va.La'H1104upthe inheritanceנַחֲלַ֥תna.cha.LatH5159of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068?”

20Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097repliedוַיַּ֥עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030, “Farחָלִ֤ילָהcha.Li.lahH2486be it, farחָלִ֙ילָה֙cha.Li.lahH2486be it from me that I should swallowאֲבַלַּ֖ע'a.va.La'H1104up or destroyאַשְׁחִֽית׃'ash.ChitH7843!

21Suchכֵ֣ןkhenH3651is not the caseהַדָּבָ֗רha.da.VarH1697.But a manאִישׁ֩'ishH376fromthe hillמֵהַ֨רme.HarH2022countryH2022of Ephraimאֶפְרַ֜יִם'ef.Ra.yimH669,Shebaשֶׁ֧בַעShe.va'H7652the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Bichriבִּכְרִ֣יbikh.RiH1075by nameשְׁמ֗וֹshe.MoH8034,has liftedנָשָׂ֤אna.Sa'H5375up his handיָדוֹ֙ya.DoH3027against Kingבַּמֶּ֣לֶךְba.Me.lekhH4428Davidבְּדָוִ֔דbe.da.VidH1732.Onlyלְבַדּ֔וֹle.va.DoH905handH5414him overH5414,and I will departוְאֵלְכָ֖הve.'e.le.KhahH1980from the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892.”And the womanהָֽאִשָּׁה֙ha.'i.ShahH802saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559to Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097, “Beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,his headרֹאשׁ֛וֹro.ShoH7218will be thrownמֻשְׁלָ֥ךְmush.LakhH7993to you overבְּעַ֥דbe.'AdH1157the wallהַחוֹמָֽה׃ha.cho.MahH2346.”

22Then the womanהָאִשָּׁ֨הha.'i.ShahH802wiselyבְּחָכְמָתָ֗הּbe.cha.khe.ma.TahH2451cameוַתָּבוֹא֩va.ta.Vo'H935to allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971.And they cutוַֽיִּכְרְת֞וּvai.yikh.re.TuH3772offH3772the headרֹ֨אשׁroshH7218of Shebaשֶׁ֤בַעShe.va'H7652the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Bichriבִּכְרִי֙bikh.RiH1075and threwוַיַּשְׁלִ֣כוּvai.yash.Li.khuH7993it to Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097. Sohe blewוַיִּתְקַע֙vai.yit.Ka'H8628the trumpetבַּשּׁוֹפָ֔רba.sho.FarH7782,and they were dispersedוַיָּפֻ֥צוּvai.ya.Fu.tzuH6327from the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892,eachאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376to his tentלְאֹהָלָ֑יוle.'o.ha.LavH168.Joabוְיוֹאָ֛בve.yo.'AvH3097also returnedשָׁ֥בshavH7725to the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ סha.Me.lekhH4428at Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389.
