8When Davidדָּוִ֑ידda.VidH1732heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֖עvai.yish.Ma'H8085of it,he sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097and allכָּל־kol-H3605the armyצָבָ֖אtza.Va'H6635,the mightyH1368menH1368.

9The sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּ֔וֹןa.MonH5983cameוַיֵּצְאוּ֙vai.ye.tze.'UH3318out and drewוַיַּֽעַרְכ֥וּvai.ya.'ar.KhuH6186up in battleמִלְחָמָ֖הmil.cha.MahH4421array at the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892,and the kingsוְהַמְּלָכִ֣יםve.ha.me.la.KhimH4428whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834had comeבָּ֔אוּBa.'uH935were by themselvesלְבַדָּ֖םle.va.DamH905in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ba.sa.DehH7704.

10Now when Joabיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200that thebattleהַמִּלְחָמָ֛הha.mil.cha.MahH4421was set againstאֵלָ֖יו'e.LavH413him in frontH6440and in the rearוְאָח֑וֹרve.'a.ChorH268,he selectedH977from allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605the choiceH970men of Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478and they arrayedוַֽיַּעֲרֹ֖ךְvai.ya.'a.RokhH6186themselves againstלִקְרַ֥אתlik.RatH7122the Arameansאֲרָֽם׃'a.RamH758.

11But the remainderיֶ֣תֶרYe.terH3499of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971he placedנָתַ֕ןna.TanH5414in the handבְּיַ֖דbe.YadH3027ofAbshaiאַבְשַׁ֣י'av.ShaiH52his brotherאָחִ֑יו'a.ChivH251;and they arrayedוַיַּ֣עַרְכ֔וּvai.Ya.'ar.KhuH6186themselves againstלִקְרַ֖אתlik.RatH7122the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּֽוֹן׃a.MonH5983.

12He saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518the Arameansאֲרָ֔ם'a.RamH758are tooמִמֶּ֙נִּי֙mi.Me.niH4480strongתֶּחֱזַ֤קte.che.ZakH2388for me, then you shall helpוְהָיִ֥יתָ לִתְשׁוּעָ֑ה סve.ha.Yi.ta lit.shu.'AhH1961 H8668me; but ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּ֛וֹןa.MonH5983are tooמִמְּךָ֖mi.me.KhaH4480strongיֶֽחֶזְק֥וּye.chez.KuH2388for you, then I will helpוְהוֹשַׁעְתִּֽיךָ׃ve.ho.sha'.Ti.khaH3467you.

13Be strongH2388,and let us showH2388ourselves courageousH2388for the sakeH1157of our peopleעַמֵּ֔נוּ'a.Me.nuH5971and for the citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892of our Godאֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430;and may the Lordוַֽיהוָ֔הva.Yah.wehH3068doיַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ya.'a.SehH6213whatH2896is goodH2896in His sightבְּעֵינָ֖יוbe.'ei.NavH5869.”
