Matthew 16:13-28

131Now when Jesus came into the district of 2Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that 3the Son of Man is?” 14And they said, “Some say 4John the Baptist; and others, 56Elijah; but still others, 7Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” 15He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16Simon Peter answered, “You are 89the Christ, 10the Son of 11the living God.” 17And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, 12Simon 13Barjona, because 14flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18I also say to you that you are 1516Peter, and upon this 17rock I will build My church; and the gates of 18Hades will not overpower it. 19I will give you 19the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and 20whatever you bind on earth 21shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth 22shall have been loosed in heaven.” 2023Then He 24warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was 2526the Christ.

2127From that time 28Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and 29suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. 22Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “30God forbid it, Lord! This shall never 31happen to You.” 23But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, 32Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on 33God’s interests, but man’s.”

24Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and 34take up his cross and follow Me. 25For 35whoever wishes to save his 36life will lose it; but whoever loses his 37life for My sake will find it. 26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27For the 38Son of Man 39is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and 40will then 41repay every man according to his 42deeds.

28“Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the 43Son of Man 44coming in His kingdom.”
