John 8:23-38

23And He was saying to them, “1You are from below, I am from above; 2you are of this world, 3I am not of this world. 24Therefore I said to you that you 4will die in your sins; for unless you believe that 56I am He, 7you will die in your sins.” 25So they were saying to Him, “Who are You?” Jesus said to them, “8What have I been saying to you from the beginning? 26I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but 9He who sent Me is true; and 10the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.” 27They did not realize that He had been speaking to them about the Father. 28So Jesus said, “When you 11lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that 1213I am He, and 14I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. 29And He who sent Me is with Me; 15He 16has not left Me alone, for 17I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” 30As He spoke these things, 18many came to believe in Him.

31So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “19If you continue in My word, then you are truly 20disciples of Mine; 32and 21you will know the truth, and 22the truth will make you free.” 33They answered Him, “23We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, 24everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 3525The slave does not remain in the house forever; 26the son does remain forever. 36So if the Son 27makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37I know that you are 28Abraham’s descendants; yet 29you seek to kill Me, because My word 30has no place in you. 38I speak the things which I have seen 31with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from 32your father.”
