2 Thessalonians 2

Man of Lawlessness

1Now we request you, 1brethren, with regard to the 23coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our 4gathering together to Him, 2that you not be quickly shaken from your 5composure or be disturbed either by a 6spirit or a 78message or a 9letter as if from us, to the effect that 10the day of the Lord 11has come. 312Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the 1314apostasy comes first, and the 15man of lawlessness is revealed, the 16son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself above 1718every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, 19displaying himself as being God. 5Do you not remember that 20while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6And you know 21what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7For 22the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only 23he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8Then that lawless one 24will be revealed whom the Lord will slay 25with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the 26appearance of His 27coming; 9that is, the one whose 28coming is in accord with the activity of 29Satan, with all power and 3031signs and false wonders, 10and with 32all the deception of wickedness for 33those who perish, because they did not receive the love of 34the truth so as to be saved. 11For this reason 35God 36will send upon them 37a 38deluding influence so that they will believe 39what is false, 12in order that they all may be 40judged who 41did not believe the truth, but 4243took pleasure in wickedness.

1344But we should always give thanks to God for you, 45brethren beloved by the Lord, because 46God has chosen you 47from the beginning 48for salvation 4950through sanctification 51by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14It was for this He 52called you through 53our gospel, 54that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15So then, brethren, 55stand firm and 56hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether 57by word of mouth or 58by letter 59from us.

1660Now may our Lord Jesus Christ 61Himself and God our Father, who has 62loved us and given us eternal comfort and 63good hope by grace, 1764comfort and 65strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
