1 Timothy 1:3-20
3As I urged you 1upon my departure for 2Macedonia, 3remain on at 4Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to 5teach strange doctrines, 4nor to 6pay attention to 7myths and endless 8genealogies, which give rise to mere 9speculation rather than 10furthering 11the administration of God which is by faith. 5But the goal of our 1213instruction is love 14from a pure heart and a 15good conscience and a sincere 16faith. 6For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to 17fruitless discussion, 718wanting to be 19teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.
8But we know that 20the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9realizing the fact that 21law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and 22rebellious, for the 23ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and 24profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers 1025and 2627immoral men 28and 29homosexuals 30and 31kidnappers 32and 33liars 34and 35perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to 36sound teaching, 11according to 37the glorious gospel of 38the blessed God, with which I have been 39entrusted.
12I thank 40Christ Jesus our Lord, who has 41strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, 42putting me into service, 13even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a 43persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was 44shown mercy because 45I acted ignorantly in unbelief; 14and the 46grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the 47faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. 1548It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that 49Christ Jesus came into the world to 50save sinners, among whom 51I am foremost of all. 16Yet for this reason I 52found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might 53demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those 54who would believe in Him for eternal life. 17Now to the 55King 56eternal, 57immortal, 58invisible, the 59only God, 60be honor and glory 61forever and ever. Amen.
18This 62command I entrust to you, Timothy, 63my 64son, in accordance with the 65prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you 66fight the good fight, 19keeping 67faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to 6869their faith. 2070Among these are 71Hymenaeus and 72Alexander, whom I have 73handed over to Satan, so that they will be 74taught not to blaspheme.
