2 Timothy 2

Be Strong

1You therefore, my 12son, 3be strong in the grace that is in 4Christ Jesus. 2The things 5which you have heard from me in the presence of 6many witnesses, 7entrust these to 8faithful men who will be 9able to teach others also. 310Suffer hardship with me, as a good 11soldier of 12Christ Jesus. 4No soldier in active service 13entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 5Also if anyone 14competes as an athlete, he 15does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. 616The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

8Remember Jesus Christ, 17risen from the dead, 18descendant of David, 19according to my gospel, 920for which I 21suffer hardship even to 22imprisonment as a 23criminal; but 24the word of God 25is not imprisoned. 10For this reason 26I endure all things for 27the sake of those who are chosen, 28so that they also may obtain the 29salvation which is in 30Christ Jesus and with it 31eternal glory. 1132It is a trustworthy statement: For 33if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;12If we endure, 34we will also reign with Him; If we 3536deny Him, He also will deny us;13If we are faithless, 37He remains faithful, for 38He cannot deny Himself.

An Unashamed Workman

14Remind them of these things, and solemnly 39charge them in the presence of God not to 40wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15Be diligent to 41present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling 42the word of truth. 16But 43avoid 44worldly and empty chatter, for 45it will lead to further ungodliness, 17and their 46talk will spread like 47gangrene. Among them are 48Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18men who have gone astray from the truth saying that 49the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset 50the faith of some. 19Nevertheless, the 51firm foundation of God stands, having this 52seal, “53The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “54Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”

20Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and 55some to honor and some to dishonor. 21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from 56these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, 57prepared for every good work. 22Now 58flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, 59faith, love and peace, with those who 60call on the Lord 61from a pure heart. 23But refuse foolish and ignorant 62speculations, knowing that they 63produce 64quarrels. 2465The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, 66able to teach, patient when wronged, 2567with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, 68if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to 69the knowledge of the truth, 26and they may come to their senses and escape from 70the snare of the devil, having been 71held captive 72by him to do his will.
