1 Timothy 2

A Call to Prayer

1First of all, then, I urge that 1entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 22for kings and all who are in 3authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and 4dignity. 3This is good and acceptable in the sight of 5God our Savior, 46who desires all men to be 7saved and to 8come to the 9knowledge of the truth. 5For there is 10one God, and 11one mediator also between God and men, the 12man Christ Jesus, 6who 13gave Himself as a ransom for all, the 14testimony 15given at 1617the proper time. 718For this I was appointed a 19preacher and 20an apostle (21I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of 22the Gentiles in faith and truth.

8Therefore 23I want the men 24in every place to pray, 25lifting up 26holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

Women Instructed

9Likewise, I want 27women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, 28modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 1129A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 1230But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 1331For it was Adam who was first 32created, and then Eve. 14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but 33the woman being deceived, 34fell into transgression. 15But women will be 35preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in 36faith and love and sanctity with 37self-restraint.
