1 Peter 4
Keep Fervent in Your Love
1Therefore, since 1Christ has 2suffered in the flesh, 3arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because 4he who has 5suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 26so as to live 7the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the 8will of God. 3For 9the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, 1011having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and 12abominable idolatries. 4In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of 13dissipation, and they 14malign you; 5but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge 15the living and the dead. 6For 16the gospel has for this purpose been 17preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.
718The end of all things 19is near; therefore, 20be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of 21prayer. 8Above all, 22keep fervent in your love for one another, because 23love covers a multitude of sins. 924Be hospitable to one another without 25complaint. 1026As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good 27stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1128Whoever speaks, is to do so 29as one who is speaking the 30utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving 3132by the strength which God supplies; so that 33in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, 34to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Share the Sufferings of Christ
1235Beloved, do not be surprised at the 36fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13but to the degree that you 37share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the 38revelation of His glory 39you may rejoice with exultation. 14If you are reviled 4041for the name of Christ, 42you are blessed, 43because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15Make sure that 44none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a 4546troublesome meddler; 16but if anyone suffers as a 47Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to 48glorify God in this name. 17For it is time for judgment 49to begin 50with 51the household of God; and if it 52begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those 53who do not obey the 54gospel of God? 1855And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, 56what will become of the 57godless man and the sinner? 19Therefore, those also who suffer according to 58the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
