Revelation 3:12
12Everyone who wins against Satan will be safe in God's house. I will make them like a strong pillar in the temple of my God. They will never leave that place again. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of his city. The name of that city is the new Jerusalem. It will come down from heaven. My God will send it down to the earth. I will also write my new name on those people.

Context of Revelation 3:12
10I have told you to be patient in this difficult time. You have obeyed what I told you. Because of that, I will keep you safe from the time of great trouble that will come. This trouble will come to everyone who lives in the world. It will show me what each person is really like. 11I will come soon. Continue to obey my message that you already know. Then nobody can take away your crown which is God's gift to you. Everyone who wins against Satan will be safe in God's house. I will make them like a strong pillar in the temple of my God. They will never leave that place again. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of his city. The name of that city is the new Jerusalem. It will come down from heaven. My God will send it down to the earth. I will also write my new name on those people. 13God's Spirit is speaking to you in the churches. You should understand what the Spirit is saying to you. You have ears, so listen carefully!” ’ 14‘Write this to the angel of the church at Laodicea: “This is my message to you. I am the one whose name is ‘Amen’. Commentaries on Revelation 3:12
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12A pillar in the temple - There is probably all allusion here to the two pillars in the temple of Jerusalem, called Jachin and Boaz, stability and strength. The Church is the temple; Christ is the foundation on which it is built; and his ministers are the Pillars by which, under him, it is adorned and supported. St. Paul has the same allusions, Galatians 2:9. I will write upon him the name of my God - That is, I will make him a priest unto myself. The…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Him that overcometh - See the notes on Revelation 2:7. Will make a pillar in the temple of my God - See the introductory remarks to this epistle. The promised reward of faithfulness here is, that he who was victorious would be honored as if he were a pillar or column in the temple of God. Such a pillar or column was partly for ornament, and partly for support; and the idea here is, that in that temple he would contribute to its beauty and the justness of…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-13Verses 7-13 The same Lord Jesus has the key of government and authority in and over the church. He opens a door of opportunity to his churches; he opens a door of utterance to his ministers; he opens a door of entrance, opens the heart. He shuts the door of heaven against the foolish, who sleep away their day of grace; and against the workers of iniquity, how vain and confident soever they may be. The church in Philadelphia is commended; yet with a gentle…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12Victorious Christians are secure in God's household, like pillars, and they will never have to leave it. The name of God inscribed on them shows God's ownership and the security Christians enjoy (see Revelation 7:4; 14:1). The new Jerusalem is not built by humans. Instead, it is God's gift from heaven (Revelation 21:2–10). A new name was a sign of God's blessing (see also Revelation 2:17). Abram, Jacob, Simon, and others received new names (Genesis 17:5…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1212. pillar in the temple--In one sense there shall be "no temple" in the heavenly city because there shall be no distinction of things into sacred and secular, for all things and persons shall be holy to the Lord. The city shall be all one great temple, in which the saints shall be not merely stones, as m the spiritual temple now on earth, but all eminent as pillars: immovably firm (unlike Philadelphia, the city which was so often shaken by earthquakes…Read the comment
