Context of Hebrews 3:2
1So, Christian friends, think carefully about who Jesus is. Like us, God has chosen you to belong to him. We tell people that we believe in Jesus as the messenger that God has sent. He helps us as God's most important priest. That is what God sent Jesus to do. Jesus did everything that God wanted, just like Moses. Moses served God well when he was the leader of God's people long ago. 3We know that someone who builds a house is more important than the house itself. In the same way, we should praise Jesus more than we praise Moses, because Jesus is greater. 4Every house has someone who built it. But God is the one who has built all things.

Commentaries on Hebrews 3:2
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2Who was faithful to him - In Numbers 12:7, God gives this testimony to Moses: My servant Moses - is faithful in all my house; and to this testimony the apostle alludes. House not only means the place where a family dwells, but also the family itself. The whole congregation of Israel was the house or family of God, and God is represented as dwelling among them; and Moses was his steward, and was faithful in the discharge of his office; strictly enforcing…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Who was faithful - see the note, Hebrews 2:17. He performed with fidelity all the functions entrusted to him. To him that appointed him - Margin, “made.” The word “made,” however, is used in the sense of constituted, or appointed. The meaning is, that he was faithful to God. Perhaps Paul urges on them the necessity of considering “his fidelity” in order to keep “them” from the danger of apostasy. A leading object of this Epistle was to preserve those whom…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2Jesus was loyal to God and the mission given to him by the Father (Hebrews 5:7–10; 12:1–3; Philippians 2:5–11), just like Moses was (Numbers 12:7). Many Jews in the first century saw Moses as the greatest person in history, even more important than angels.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 22. He first notes the feature of resemblance between Moses and Christ, in order to conciliate the Hebrew Christians whom He addressed, and who still entertained a very high opinion of Moses; he afterwards brings forward Christ's superiority to Moses. Who was faithful--The Greek implies also that He still is faithful, namely, as our mediating High Priest, faithful to the trust God has assigned Him (He 2:17). So Moses in God's house (Nu 12:7). appointed…Read the comment
