Context of Hebrews 3:4
2That is what God sent Jesus to do. Jesus did everything that God wanted, just like Moses. Moses served God well when he was the leader of God's people long ago. 3We know that someone who builds a house is more important than the house itself. In the same way, we should praise Jesus more than we praise Moses, because Jesus is greater. Every house has someone who built it. But God is the one who has built all things. 5We say that Moses served God well, like a servant in God's house. He took care of all God's people. In this way, Moses showed clearly the message that God would speak later. 6But Christ serves in God's house as a son, not as a servant. He is the leader of God's people today. And we are God's people. We belong to his house if we continue to believe in Christ. We must be brave. We must continue to show people clearly that we trust God. He will do what he has promised to do.

Commentaries on Hebrews 3:4
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4For every house is builded by some man - The literal sense is plain enough: "Every structure plainly implies an, architect, and an end for which it was formed. The architect may be employed by him for whose use the house is intended; but the efficient cause of the erection is that which is here to he regarded." The word house, here, is still taken in a metaphorical sense as above, it signifies family or Church. Now the general meaning of the words, taken…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4For every house is builded by some man - The words in this verse are plain, and the sentiment in it clear. The only difficulty is in seeing the connection, and in understanding how it is intended to bear on what precedes, or on what follows. It is clear that every house must have a builder, and equally clear that God is the Creator of all things. But what is the meaning of this passage in this connection? What is its bearing on the argument? If the verse…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3-6Jesus deserves more glory for two reasons: A person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself. The Messiah is the one who builds God’s house (see 2 Samuel 7:13). This implies that Moses is part of the house (God’s people) that God has built. While Moses was a servant in God’s house, Christ, as the Son, is the heir in charge of God’s entire house. Sons have a higher status than household servants.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 44. Someone must be the establisher of every house; Moses was not the establisher of the house, but a portion of it (but He who established all things, and therefore the spiritual house in question, is God). Christ, as being instrumentally the Establisher of all things, must be the Establisher of the house, and so greater than Moses.Read the comment
