20“But I did obeyH8085H6963 the LORDH3068,” SaulH7586 repliedH559. “I wentH1980 on the missionH1870 thatH834 the LORDH3068 gave meH7971. I brought backH935 AgagH90 kingH4428 of AmalekH6002 and devotedH2763 the Amalekites to destructionH6002. 21The troopsH5971 tookH3947 sheepH6629 and cattleH1241 from the plunderH7998, the best ofH7225 the things devoted to destructionH2764, in order to sacrificeH2076 them to the LORDH3068 your GodH430 at GilgalH1537.”
22But SamuelH8050 declaredH559:
“Does the LORDH3068 delightH2656 in burnt offeringsH5930 and sacrificesH2077as much as in obedienceH8085 to His voiceH6963H3068?BeholdH2009, obedienceH8085 is betterH2896 than sacrificeH2077,and attentivenessH7181 is better than the fatH2459 of ramsH352.23ForH3588 rebellionH4805 is like the sinH2403 of divinationH7081,and arroganceH6484 is like the wickednessH205 of idolatryH8655.BecauseH3282 you have rejectedH3988 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068,He has rejected youH3988 as kingH4428.”
