Revised Version 1895

Isaiah 10:5-19

HoH1945 Assyrian, the rodH7626 of mine angerH639, the staffH4294 in whose handH3027 is mine indignationH2195!

I will sendH7971 him againstH5921 a profane nationH1471, and againstH5921 the peopleH5971 of my wrathH5678 will I giveH7760 him a chargeH5921, to takeH7760 the spoilH7998, and to takeH7760 the preyH957, and to treadH4823 them downH4823 like the mire of the streetsH2351.

Howbeit he meaneth notH3808 soH3651, neitherH3808 doth his heartH3824 thinkH3824 soH3651; but it is in his heartH3824 to destroyH8045, and to cutH3772 offH3772 nationsH1471 notH3808 a fewH4592.

For he saith, Are notH3808 my princesH8269 allH3162 of them kingsH4428?

Is notH3808 Calno as CarchemishH3751? is notH3808 HamathH2574 as ArpadH774? is notH3808 SamariaH8111 as DamascusH1834?

As my handH3027 hath foundH4672 the kingdomsH4467 of the idolsH457, whoseH834 gravenH6456 imagesH6456 didH834 excel them of JerusalemH3389 and of SamariaH8111;

shall I notH3808, as I have doneH6213 unto SamariaH8111 and herH3651 idolsH457, soH3651 doH6213 to JerusalemH3389 and herH3651 idolsH457?

Wherefore it shall comeH1961 to passH1961, that when the LordH136 hath performed his wholeH3605 workH4639 uponH5921 mountH2022 ZionH6726 and on JerusalemH3389, I will punishH6485 the fruitH6529 of the stout heartH3824 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and the gloryH8597 of his high looksH5869.

For he hath saidH559, By the strengthH3581 of my handH3027 I have doneH6213 it, and by my wisdomH2451; for I am prudentH995: and I have removedH5493 the bounds of the peoplesH5971, and have robbed their treasuresH6264, and I have broughtH3381 downH3381 as a valiantH47 manH47 them that sitH3427 on thronesH3427:

and my handH3027 hath foundH4672 as a nestH7064 the richesH2428 of the peoplesH5971; and as one gathereth eggsH1000 that are forsaken, have I gatheredH622 allH3605 the earthH776: and there was noneH3808 that moved the wingH3671, or that openedH6475 the mouthH6310, or chirpedH6850.

Shall the axeH1631 boastH6286 itselfH6286 againstH5921 him that heweth therewith? shall the sawH4883 magnifyH1431 itselfH6286 againstH5921 him that shaketh it? as ifH518 a rodH7626 should shakeH5130 them that liftH7311 it upH7311, or as ifH518 a staffH4294 should liftH7311 upH7311 him that is notH3808 woodH6086.

Therefore shall the LordH3068, the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, sendH7971 among his fat ones leanness; and underH8478 his gloryH3519 there shall be kindledH3344 a burningH3344 like the burningH3344 of fireH784.

And the lightH216 of IsraelH3478 shall be for a fireH784, and his HolyH6918 One for a flameH3852: and it shall burnH1197 and devourH398 his thornsH7898 and his briersH7898 in one dayH3117.

And he shall consumeH3615 the gloryH3519 of his forestH3293, and of his fruitfulH3759 fieldH3759, both soulH5315 and bodyH1320: and it shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.

And the remnantH7605 of the treesH6086 of his forestH3293 shall be fewH4557, that a childH5288 may writeH3789 them.
