Exodus 21
Revised Version 1895
1Now theseH428 are the judgmentsH4941 whichH834 thou shalt setH7760 beforeH6440 them. 2IfH3588 thou buyH7069 an HebrewH5680 servantH5650, sixH8337 yearsH8141 he shall serveH5647: and in the seventhH7637 he shall goH3318 outH3318 freeH2670 for nothingH2600. 3IfH518 he comeH935 in by himselfH1931, he shall goH3318 outH3318 by himselfH1931: ifH518 he be marriedH802, then his wifeH802 shall goH3318 outH3318 with him. 4IfH518 his masterH113 giveH5414 him a wifeH802, and sheH1931 bearH3205 him sonsH1121 or daughtersH1323; the wifeH802 and herH802 childrenH1121 shall be herH802 master’sH113, and he shall goH3318 outH3318 by himselfH1931. 5But ifH518 the servantH5650 shall plainlyH559 sayH559, I loveH157 my masterH113, my wifeH802, and my childrenH1121; I will notH3808 goH3318 outH3318 freeH2670: 6then his masterH113 shall bringH5066 him unto GodH430, and shall bringH5066 him to the doorH1817, or unto the doorH1817 postH4201; and his masterH113 shall bore his earH241 throughH176 with an awlH4836; and he shall serveH5647 him for everH5769. 7And ifH3588 a manH376 sellH4376 his daughterH1323 to be a maidservantH519, sheH3588 shall notH3808 goH3318 outH3318 as the menservants doH3318. 8IfH518 sheH834 please notH3808 herH518 masterH113, who hath espoused herH518 to himselfH3808, then shall he letH3808 herH518 be redeemedH6299: to sellH4376 herH518 unto a strange peopleH5971 he shall have noH3808 power, seeing he hath dealtH898 deceitfullyH898 with herH518. 9And ifH518 he espouse herH518 unto his sonH1121, he shall dealH6213 with herH518 after the mannerH4941 of daughtersH1323. 10IfH518 he takeH3947 him anotherH312 wife; herH3947 foodH7607, herH3947 raiment, and herH3947 duty of marriage, shall he notH3808 diminish. 11And ifH518 he doH6213 notH3808 theseH428 threeH7969 unto herH518, then shall sheH518 goH3318 outH3318 for nothingH3808, withoutH3808 moneyH3701. 12He that smiteth a manH376, soH4191 that he dieH4191, shall surelyH4191 be putH4191 to deathH4191. 13And ifH834 a man lie notH3808 in wait, but GodH430 deliver him intoH3027 his handH3027; then I will appointH7760 thee a placeH4725 whither he shall fleeH5127. 14And ifH3588 a manH376 come presumptuouslyH2102 uponH5921 his neighbour, to slayH2026 him with guile; thou shalt takeH3947 him from mineH5973 altarH4196, that he may dieH4191. 15And he that smiteth his fatherH1, or his motherH517, shall be surelyH4191 putH4191 to deathH4191. 16And he that stealeth a manH376, and selleth him, or ifH376 he be foundH4672 in his handH3027, he shall surelyH4191 be putH4191 to deathH4191. 17And he that curseth his fatherH1, or his motherH517, shall surelyH4191 be putH4191 to deathH4191. 18And ifH3588 menH376 contendH7378, and one smiteth the otherH7453 with a stoneH68, or with his fistH106, and he dieH4191 notH3808, but keep his bedH4904: 19ifH518 he riseH6965 againH6965, and walkH1980 abroadH2351 uponH5921 his staffH4938, then shall he that smoteH5221 him be quit: onlyH7535 he shall payH5414 for the lossH7674 of his time, and shall causeH5414 him to be thoroughly healedH7495. 20And ifH3588 a manH376 smiteH5221 his servantH5650, or his maidH519, with a rodH7626, and he dieH4191 underH8478 his handH3027; he shall surelyH3588 be punishedH5358. 21Notwithstanding, ifH518 he continueH5975 a dayH3117 or twoH3808, he shall notH3808 be punishedH5358: for he is his moneyH3701. 22And ifH3588 menH376 strive togetherH5921, and hurt a womanH802 with childH3206, soH1961 that herH5921 fruit departH3318, and yet noH3808 mischief followH1961: he shall be surelyH3588 finedH6064, accordingH5921 as the woman’sH802 husbandH376 shall layH5414 uponH5921 him; and he shall payH5414 as the judgesH6414 determine. 23But ifH518 anyH1961 mischief followH1961, then thou shalt giveH5414 lifeH5315 for lifeH5315, 24eyeH5869 for eyeH5869, toothH8127 for toothH8127, handH3027 for handH3027, footH7272 for footH7272, 25burning for burning, woundH6482 for woundH6482, stripe for stripe. 26And ifH3588 a manH376 smiteH5221 the eyeH5869 of his servantH5650, or the eyeH5869 of his maidH519, and destroyH7843 it; he shall letH7971 him goH7971 freeH2670 for his eye’s sake. 27And ifH518 he smite outH7971 his manservant’s toothH8127, or his maidservant’s toothH8127; he shall letH7971 him goH7971 freeH2670 for his tooth’s sake. 28And ifH3588 an oxH7794 goreH5055 a manH376 or a womanH802, that they dieH4191, the oxH7794 shall be surelyH3588 stonedH5619, and his fleshH1320 shall notH3808 be eatenH398; but the ownerH1167 of the oxH7794 shall be quit. 29But ifH518 the oxH7794 were wont to gore in time pastH8543, and it hath been testifiedH5749 to his ownerH1167, and he hath notH3808 keptH8104 him in, but that he hath killedH4191 a manH376 or a womanH802; the oxH7794 shall be stonedH5619, and his ownerH1167 also shall be putH4191 to deathH4191. 30IfH518 there be laidH5414 on him a ransomH3724, then he shall giveH5414 for the redemption of his lifeH5315 whatsoeverH3605 is laidH5414 uponH5921 him. 31WhetherH176 he have gored a sonH1121, or have gored a daughterH1323, accordingH4941 to this judgmentH4941 shall it be doneH6213 unto him. 32IfH518 the oxH7794 goreH5055 a manservant or a maidservantH519; he shall giveH5414 unto their masterH113 thirtyH7970 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701, and the oxH7794 shall be stonedH5619. 33And ifH3588 a manH376 shall openH6605 a pitH953, or ifH3588 a manH376 shall digH3738 a pitH953 and notH3808 coverH3680 it, and an oxH7794 or an ass fallH5307 therein, 34the ownerH1167 of the pitH953 shall makeH7725 it good; he shall giveH7725 moneyH3701 unto the ownerH1167 of them, and the deadH4191 beast shall be his. 35And ifH3588 one man’sH376 oxH7794 hurt another’sH7453, that he dieH4191; then they shall sellH4376 the liveH2416 oxH7794, and divideH2673 the priceH3701 of it; and the deadH4191 also they shall divideH2673. 36Or ifH3588 it be knownH3045 that the oxH7794 was wont to gore in time pastH8543, and his ownerH1167 hath notH3808 keptH8104 him in; he shall surelyH3588 payH7999 oxH7794 for oxH7794, and the deadH4191 beast shall be his ownH1961.
