1 Kings 18
Revised Version 1895
1And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH5921 manyH7227 daysH3117, that the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to ElijahH452, in the thirdH7992 yearH8141, sayingH559, GoH1961, shew thyself unto AhabH256; and I will sendH5414 rainH4306 uponH5921 the earthH127. 2And ElijahH452 wentH413 to shew himselfH413 unto AhabH256. And the famineH7458 was sore in SamariaH8111. 3And AhabH256 calledH7121 ObadiahH5662, whichH834 was over the householdH1004. (NowH1961 ObadiahH5662 feared the LORDH3068 greatlyH3966: 4for it was soH3947, when JezebelH348 cutH3772 offH3772 prophetsH5030 of the LORDH3068, that ObadiahH5662 tookH3947 an hundredH3967 prophetsH5030, and hidH2244 them by fiftyH2572 in a caveH4631, and fed them with breadH3899 and waterH4325.) 5And AhabH256 saidH559 unto ObadiahH5662, Go throughH3605 the landH776, unto allH3605 the fountainsH4599 of waterH4325, and unto allH3605 the brooks: peradventure weH3605 may findH4672 grassH2682 and save the horsesH5483 and mulesH6505 aliveH2421, that weH3605 lose notH3808 allH3605 the beastsH929. 6SoH1980 they dividedH2505 the landH776 betweenH5674 them to passH5674 throughoutH1980 it: AhabH256 wentH1980 one wayH1870 by himselfH905, and ObadiahH5662 wentH1980 anotherH259 wayH1870 by himselfH905. 7And as ObadiahH5662 was in the wayH1870, beholdH2009, ElijahH452 metH7125 him: and he knew him, and fellH5307 on his faceH6440, and saidH559, Is it thou, my lordH113 ElijahH452? 8And he answeredH559 him, It is I: goH2009, tellH559 thy lordH113, BeholdH2009, ElijahH452 is hereH2009. 9And he saidH559, Wherein have I sinnedH2398, that thou wouldest deliverH5414 thy servantH5650 intoH3027 the handH3027 of AhabH256, to slayH4191 meH5414? 10As the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 liveth, there is noH3808 nationH1471 or kingdomH4467, whither my lordH3068 hath notH3808 sentH7971 to seekH1245 thee: and when they saidH559, He is notH3808 hereH8033, he tookH853 an oathH7650 of the kingdomH4467 and nationH1471, that they foundH4672 thee notH3808. 11And nowH6258 thou sayest, GoH2009, tellH559 thy lordH113, BeholdH2009, ElijahH452 is hereH2009. 12And it shall comeH935 to passH935, as soon as I am goneH935 from thee, that the spiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 shall carryH5375 thee whither I knowH3045 notH3808; and soH1961 when I comeH935 and tellH5046 AhabH256, and he cannotH3808 findH4672 thee, he shall slayH2026 meH5046: but I thy servantH5650 fearH3372 the LORDH3068 from my youthH5271. 13Was it notH3808 toldH5046 my lordH3068 whatH834 I didH6213 when JezebelH348 slewH2026 the prophetsH5030 of the LORDH3068, howH834 I hidH2244 an hundredH3967 menH376 of the LORD’SH3068 prophetsH5030 by fiftyH2572 in a caveH4631, and fed them with breadH3899 an waterH4325? 14And nowH6258 thou sayest, GoH2009, tellH559 thy lordH113, BeholdH2009, ElijahH452: is hereH2009: and he shall slayH2026 meH2026. 15And ElijahH452 saidH559, As the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 liveth, beforeH6440 whomH834 I standH5975, I will surelyH3588 shew myself unto him todayH3117. 16So ObadiahH5662 wentH7125 to meetH7125 AhabH256, and toldH5046 him: and AhabH256 wentH7125 to meetH7125 ElijahH452. 17And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when AhabH256 sawH7200 ElijahH452, that AhabH256 saidH559 unto him, Is it thou, thou troublerH5916 of IsraelH3478? 18And he answeredH559, I have notH3808 troubledH5916 IsraelH3478; but thou, and thy father’sH1 houseH1004, in that ye have forsaken the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068, and thou hast followedH310 the Baalim. 19NowH6258 therefore sendH7971, and gatherH6908 to meH413 allH3605 IsraelH3478 unto mountH2022 CarmelH3760, and the prophetsH5030 of BaalH1168 fourH702 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572, and the prophetsH5030 of the AsherahH842 fourH702 hundredH3967, whichH2022 eatH398 at Jezebel’sH348 tableH7979. 20SoH7971 AhabH256 sentH7971 unto allH3605 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, and gatheredH6908 the prophetsH5030 togetherH6908 unto mountH2022 CarmelH3760. 21And ElijahH452 cameH5066 nearH5066 unto allH3605 the peopleH5971, and saidH559, HowH4970 longH5704 halt ye betweenH5704 twoH8147 opinions? ifH518 the LORDH3068 be GodH430, followH310 him: but ifH518 BaalH1168, then followH310 him. And the peopleH5971 answeredH559 him notH3808 a wordH1697. 22Then saidH559 ElijahH452 unto the peopleH5971, I, even I onlyH905, am leftH3498 a prophetH5030 of the LORDH3068; but Baal’s prophetsH5030 are fourH702 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572 menH376. 23LetH5414 them therefore giveH5414 usH5414 twoH8147 bullocks; and letH5414 them chooseH977 one bullock for themselvesH1992, and cutH5408 it in piecesH5408, and layH5414 it on the woodH6086, and putH5414 noH3808 fireH784 underH5921: and I will dress the otherH259 bullock, and layH5414 it on the woodH6086, and putH5414 noH3808 fireH784 underH5921. 24And callH7121 ye on the nameH8034 of your godH430, and I will callH7121 on the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068: and the GodH430 that answereth by fireH784, letH1961 him be GodH430. And allH3605 the peopleH5971 answeredH559 and saidH559, It is wellH2896 spokenH559. 25And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto the prophetsH5030 of BaalH1168, ChooseH977 youH859 one bullock for yourselves, and dress it firstH7223; for ye are manyH7227; and callH7121 on the nameH8034 of your godH430, but putH7760 noH3808 fireH784 under. 26And they tookH3947 the bullock whichH834 was givenH5414 them, and they dressed it, and calledH7121 on the nameH8034 of BaalH1168 from morningH1242 evenH5704 untilH5704 noonH6672, sayingH559, O BaalH1168, hearH6963 usH5414. But there was noH369 voiceH6963, norH369 anyH369 that answeredH559. And they leaped aboutH5921 the altarH4196 whichH834 was madeH6213. 27And it cameH1961 to passH1961 at noonH6672, that ElijahH452 mockedH2048 them, and saidH559, CryH7121 aloud: for he is a godH430; eitherH3588 he is musing, or he is goneH1961 aside, or he is in a journeyH1870, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. 28And they criedH7121 aloud, and cutH1413 themselvesH5921 afterH5921 their mannerH4941 with knivesH2719 and lancesH7420, tillH5704 the bloodH1818 gushedH8210 outH8210 uponH5921 them. 29And it was soH1961, when midday was past, that they prophesiedH5012 untilH5704 the time of the offering of the evening oblation; but there was neitherH369 voiceH6963, norH369 anyH369 to answerH6030, norH369 anyH369 that regarded. 30And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto allH3605 the peopleH5971, ComeH5066 nearH5066 unto meH413; and allH3605 the peopleH5971 cameH5066 nearH5066 unto him. And he repairedH7495 the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068 that was thrownH2040 downH2040. 31And ElijahH452 tookH3947 twelveH6240 stonesH68, accordingH413 to the numberH4557 of the tribesH7626 of the sonsH1121 of JacobH3290, unto whomH834 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961, sayingH559, IsraelH3478 shall be thy nameH8034. 32And with the stonesH68 he builtH1129 an altarH4196 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068; and he madeH6213 a trench aboutH5439 the altarH4196, as great as would contain twoH1004 measuresH5429 of seedH2233. 33And he putH7760 the woodH6086 in order, and cutH5408 the bullock in piecesH5408, and laidH7760 it on the woodH6086. And he said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt offering, and on the woodH6086. 34And he saidH559, DoH8138 it the secondH8138 time; and they didH8027 it the secondH8138 time. And he saidH559, DoH8138 it the thirdH8027 time; and they didH8027 it the thirdH8027 time. 35And the waterH4325 ran roundH5439 aboutH5439 the altarH4196; and he filledH4390 the trench also with waterH4325. 36And it cameH1961 to passH1961 at the time of the offering of the evening oblation, that ElijahH452 the prophetH5030 cameH1961 nearH5066, and saidH559, O LORDH3068, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85, of IsaacH3327, and of IsraelH3478, letH1961 it be knownH3045 this dayH3117 that thou art GodH430 in IsraelH3478, and that I am thy servantH5650, and that I have doneH6213 allH3605 theseH428 things at thy wordH1697. 37Hear meH5437, O LORDH3068, hear meH5437, that this peopleH5971 may knowH3045 that thou, LORDH3068, art GodH430, and that thou hast turnedH5437 their heartH3820 backH322 againH322. 38Then the fireH784 of the LORDH3068 fellH5307, and consumedH398 the burntH5930 offering, and the woodH6086, and the stonesH68, and the dustH6083, and lickedH3897 upH853 the waterH4325 that was in the trench. 39And when allH3605 the peopleH5971 sawH7200 it, they fellH5307 on their facesH6440: and they saidH559, The LORDH3068, he is GodH430; the LORDH3068, he is GodH430. 40and ElijahH452 saidH559 unto them, TakeH8610 the prophetsH5030 of BaalH1168; letH408 notH408 one of them escapeH4422. And they tookH8610 them: and ElijahH452 broughtH3381 them downH3381 to the brookH5158 KishonH7028, and slewH7819 them there. 41And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto AhabH256, GetH5927 thee upH5927, eatH398 and drinkH8354; for there is the soundH6963 of abundanceH1995 of rainH1653. 42SoH5927 AhabH256 wentH5927 upH5927 to eatH398 and to drinkH8354. And ElijahH452 wentH5927 upH5927 to the topH7218 of CarmelH3760; and he bowed himselfH8354 downH1457 uponH413 the earthH776, and putH7760 his faceH6440 betweenH996 his kneesH1290. 43And he saidH559 to his servantH5288, GoH5927 upH5927 nowH4994, lookH5027 towardH413 the seaH3220. And he wentH5927 upH5927, and lookedH5027, and saidH559, There is nothingH369. And he saidH559, GoH5927 againH7725 sevenH7651 timesH6471. 44And it cameH1961 to passH1961 at the seventhH7637 time, that he saidH559, BeholdH2009, there ariseth a cloudH5645 outH413 of the seaH3220, as smallH6996 as a man’sH376 handH3709. And he saidH559, GoH5927 upH5927, sayH559 unto AhabH256, MakeH3381 readyH631 thy chariot, and getH5927 thee downH3381, that the rainH1653 stopH3808 thee notH3808. 45And it cameH1961 to passH1961 in a little whileH5704, that the heavenH8064 grewH6937 blackH6937 with cloudsH5645 and windH7307, and there was a greatH1419 rainH1653. And AhabH256 rodeH7392, and wentH1961 to JezreelH3157. 46and the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was on ElijahH452; and he girdedH8151 upH5704 his loinsH4975, and ranH7323 beforeH6440 AhabH256 to the entranceH935 of JezreelH3157.
