Context of James 5:8
6You have condemned and murdered the righteous person, although he does not resist you. 7So be patient, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s return. Think of how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the ground and is patient for it until it receives the early and late rains. You also be patient and strengthen your hearts, for the Lord’s return is near. 9Do not grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be judged. See, the judge stands before the gates! 10As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-11Verses 7-11 Consider him that waits for a crop of corn; and will not you wait for a crown of glory? If you should be called to wait longer than the husbandman, is not there something more worth waiting for? In every sense the coming of the Lord drew nigh, and all his people's losses, hardships, and sufferings, would be repaid. Men count time long, because they measure it by their own lives; but all time is as nothing to God; it is as a moment. To…Read the comment
