A Father’s Instruction
1ListenH8085, my sonsH1121, to the 1instructionH4148 of a fatherH1, And 2payH7181 attentionH7181 so that you may 3gainH3045 understandingH998,2For I giveH5414 you goodH2896 4teachingH3948; 5Do not abandonH5800 my 6instructionH8451.3WhenH3588 I was a sonH1121 to my fatherH1, 7TenderH7390 and 8the onlyH3173 sonH3173 in the sightH6440 of my motherH517,4He 9taughtH3384 me and saidH559 to me, “Let your heartH3820 10takeH8551 holdH8551 of my wordsH1697; 11KeepH8104 my commandmentsH4687 and liveH2421;512AcquireH7069 wisdomH2451! 13AcquireH7069 understandingH998! Do not forgetH7911 norH408 turnH5186 awayH5186 from the wordsH561 of my mouthH6310.6Do not abandonH5800 her, and she will guardH8104 you; 14LoveH157 her, and she will watchH5341 over you.715The 16beginningH7225 of wisdomH2451 is: 17AcquireH7069 wisdomH2451; And with allH3605 your possessionsH7075, acquireH7069 understandingH998.818PrizeH5549 her, and she will exaltH7311 you; She will honorH3513 you ifH3588 you embraceH2263 her.9She will placeH5414 19on your headH7218 a garlandH3880 of graceH2580; She will presentH4042 you with a crownH5850 of beautyH8597.”
10ListenH8085, my sonH1121, and 20acceptH3947 my sayingsH561, And the 21yearsH8141 of your lifeH2425 will beH7235 manyH7235.11I have 22instructedH3384 you in the wayH1870 of wisdomH2451; I have ledH1869 you in uprightH3476 pathsH4570.12When you walkH1980, your 23stepsH6806 will not be hamperedH6887; And ifH518 you runH7323, you 24will not stumbleH3782.1325TakeH2388 holdH2388 of instructionH4148; do not letH7503 goH7503. GuardH5341 her, for she is your 26lifeH2425.1427Do not enterH935 the pathH734 of the wickedH7563 And do not proceedH833 in the wayH1870 of evilH7451 peopleH7451.15AvoidH6544 it, do not passH5674 by it; TurnH7847 awayH7847 from it and passH5674 onH5674.16For they 28cannotH3808 sleepH3462 unlessH518H3808 they doH7489 evilH7489; And 29they are robbedH1497 of sleepH8142 unlessH518H3808 they make someone stumbleH3782.17For they 30eatH3898 the breadH3899 of wickednessH7562, And drinkH8354 the wineH3196 of violenceH2555.18But the 31pathH734 of the righteousH6662 is like the 32lightH216 of dawnH5051 That 33shinesH215 brighterH1980 and brighterH1980 untilH5704 the 34fullH3559 dayH3117.19The 35wayH1870 of the wickedH7563 is like darknessH653; They do not knowH3045 over whatH4100 they 3637stumbleH3782.
20My sonH1121, 38payH7181 attentionH7181 to my wordsH561; 39InclineH5186 your earH241 to my sayingsH561.2140They are not to escapeH3868 from your sightH5869; 41KeepH8104 them in the midstH8432 of your heartH3824.22For they are 42lifeH2425 to those who findH4672 them, And 43healingH4832 to allH3605 44their bodyH1320.23WatchH5341 over your heartH3820 with allH3605 diligenceH4929, For 45from it flow the springsH8444 of lifeH2425.24RidH5493 yourself of a 46deceitfulH6143 mouthH6310 And 47keepH7368 deviousH3891 48speechH8193 farH7368 from you.25Let your eyesH5869 lookH5027 directlyH5227 aheadH5227 And let your 49gazeH6079 be fixedH3474 straightH3474 in frontH5048 of you.265051WatchH6424 the pathH4570 of your feetH7272, And allH3605 your 52waysH1870 will be establishedH3559.2753Do not turnH5186 to the rightH3225 or to the leftH8040; 54TurnH5493 your footH7272 from evilH7451.
