Matthew 6:8-32
So do not be like them; for 1your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
“2Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, 3Hallowed be Your name.1045Your kingdom come. 6Your will be done, 7On earth as it is in heaven.118Give us this day 9our daily bread.12And 10forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.13And do not lead us into temptation, but 11deliver us from 1213evil.14’ 1415For if you forgive other people for their 16offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But 17if you do not forgive other people, then your Father will not forgive your 18offenses.
“Now 19whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they 20distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. 21Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 17But as for you, when you fast, 2223anoint your head and wash your face, 18so that your fasting will not be noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your 24Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
“25Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves 26treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21for 27where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“28The eye is the lamp of the body; so then, if your eye is 29clear, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if 30your eye is 31bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
“32No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and 3334wealth.
“35For this reason I say to you, 36do not be 37worried about your 38life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? 2639Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? 27And which of you by 40worrying can 41add a single 42day to his 43life’s span? 28And why are you 44worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, 29yet I say to you that not even 45Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the 46grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? 47You of little faith! 31Do not 48worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’ 32For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for 49your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
