Matthew 6:16-25
“Now 1whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they 2distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. 3Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 17But as for you, when you fast, 45anoint your head and wash your face, 18so that your fasting will not be noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your 6Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
“7Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves 8treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21for 9where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“10The eye is the lamp of the body; so then, if your eye is 11clear, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if 12your eye is 13bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
“14No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and 1516wealth.
“17For this reason I say to you, 18do not be 19worried about your 20life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?
