1Now Kingוְהַמֶּ֤לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732was oldזָקֵ֔ןza.KenH2204,advancedבָּ֖אba'H935in ageבַּיָּמִ֑יםbai.ya.MimH3117;and they coveredוַיְכַסֻּ֙הוּ֙vay.kha.Su.huH3680him with clothesבַּבְּגָדִ֔יםba.be.ga.DimH899,but he could not keepH2552warmיִחַ֖םyi.ChamH2552.

2So his servantsעֲבָדָ֗יו'a.va.DavH5650saidוַיֹּ֧אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “Let them seekיְבַקְשׁ֞וּye.vak.ShuH1245a youngנַעֲרָ֣הna.'a.RahH5291virginבְתוּלָ֔הve.tu.LahH1330for my lordלַאדֹנִ֤יla.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428, and let herattendוְעָֽמְדָה֙ לִפְנֵ֣יve.'a.me.Dah lif.NeiH5975 H6440the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and becomeוּתְהִי־u.te.hi-H1961his nurseסֹכֶ֑נֶתso.Khe.netH5532;and let her lieוְשָׁכְבָ֣הve.sha.khe.VahH7901in your bosomבְחֵיקֶ֔ךָve.chei.Ke.chaH2436,that my lordלַאדֹנִ֥יla.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428may keepH2552warmוְחַ֖םve.ChamH2552.”

3So they searchedוַיְבַקְשׁוּ֙vay.vak.ShuH1245for a beautifulיָפָ֔הya.FahH3303girlנַעֲרָ֣הna.'a.RahH5291throughout allבְּכֹ֖לbe.KholH3605the territoryגְּב֣וּלge.VulH1366of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and foundוַֽיִּמְצְא֗וּvai.yim.tze.'UH4672Abishagאֲבִישַׁג֙'a.vi.ShagH49theShunammiteהַשּׁ֣וּנַמִּ֔יתha.Shu.na.MitH7767,and broughtוַיָּבִ֥אוּvai.ya.Vi.'uH935her to the kingלַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃la.Me.lekhH4428.

4The girlוְהַֽנַּעֲרָ֖הve.ha.na.'a.RahH5291was veryמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966beautifulיָפָ֣הya.FahH3303;and she becameוַתְּהִ֨יva.te.HiH1961the king’sלַמֶּ֤לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428nurseסֹכֶ֙נֶת֙so.Khe.netH5532and servedוַתְּשָׁ֣רְתֵ֔הוּva.te.Sha.re.Te.huH8334him, but the kingוְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428did notcohabitיְדָעָֽהּ׃ye.da.'AhH3045with her.

5NowAdonijahוַאֲדֹנִיָּ֧הva.'a.do.ni.YahH138the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Haggithחַגִּ֛יתcha.GitH2294exaltedמִתְנַשֵּׂ֥אmit.na.Se'H5375himself, sayingלֵאמֹ֖רle.MorH559, “I will be kingאֶמְלֹ֑ךְ'em.LokhH4427.” Sohe preparedוַיַּ֣עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213for himself chariotsרֶ֚כֶבRe.khevH7393and horsemenוּפָ֣רָשִׁ֔יםu.Fa.ra.ShimH6571with fiftyוַחֲמִשִּׁ֥יםva.cha.mi.ShimH2572menאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376to runרָצִ֥יםra.TzimH7323beforeלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440him.

6His fatherאָבִ֤יו'a.VivH1had neverוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808crossedעֲצָב֨וֹa.tza.VoH6087him at anyH4480timeמִיָּמָיו֙mi.ya.MavH3117by askingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Whyמַדּ֖וּעַma.Du.a'H4069have you doneעָשִׂ֑יתָ'a.Si.taH6213soכָּ֣כָהKa.khahH3602?”And he was alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571a veryמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966handsomeתֹּ֙אַר֙to.'arH2896 H8389manH2896, andhe was bornיָלְדָ֖הYal.dahH3205afterאַחֲרֵ֥י'a.cha.ReiH310Absalomאַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃'av.sha.LomH53.

7He had conferredדְבָרָ֔יוde.va.RavH1697withJoabיוֹאָ֣בyo.'AvH3097the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֔הtze.ru.YahH6870and withAbiatharאֶבְיָתָ֣ר'ev.ya.TarH54the priestהַכֹּהֵ֑ןha.ko.HenH3548;and followingאַחֲרֵ֖י'a.cha.ReiH310Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּֽה׃'a.do.ni.YahH138they helpedוַֽיַּעְזְר֔וּvai.ya'.ze.RuH5826him.

8ButZadokוְצָד֣וֹקve.tza.DokH6659the priestהַ֠כֹּהֵןHa.ko.henH3548,Benaiahוּבְנָיָ֨הוּu.ve.na.Ya.huH1141the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֜עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077,Nathanוְנָתָ֤ןve.na.TanH5416the prophetהַנָּבִיא֙ha.na.Vi'H5030,Shimeiוְשִׁמְעִ֣יve.shim.'IH8096,Reiוְרֵעִ֔יve.re.'IH7472, andthe mightyוְהַגִּבּוֹרִ֖יםve.hag.gi.bo.RimH1368menH1368whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834belonged to Davidלְדָוִ֑דle.da.VidH1732,were not with Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּֽהוּ׃'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138.

9Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּ֗הוּ'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138sacrificedוַיִּזְבַּ֣חvai.yiz.BachH2076sheepצֹ֤אןtzonH6629and oxenוּבָקָר֙u.va.KarH1241and fatlingsוּמְרִ֔יאu.me.Ri'H4806by thestoneאֶ֣בֶן'E.venH68of Zohelethהַזֹּחֶ֔לֶתha.zo.Che.letH2120,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834is besideאֵ֖צֶל'E.tzelH681En-rogelH5883;and he invitedוַיִּקְרָ֗אvai.yik.Ra'H7121allכָּל־kol-H3605his brothersאֶחָיו֙'e.ChavH251,the king’sהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121,and allוּלְכָל־u.le.khol-H3605the menH376of Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063,the king’sהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428servantsעַבְדֵ֥י'av.DeiH5650.
