Hebrews 9:8-24

81The Holy Spirit is signifying this, 2that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the 3outer tabernacle is still standing, 9which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly 4both gifts and sacrifices are offered which 5cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, 10since they relate only to 6food and 7drink and various 8washings, 9regulations for the 10body imposed until 11a time of reformation.

11But when Christ appeared as a 12high priest of the 13good things 14to come, He entered through 15the greater and more perfect 16tabernacle, 17not made with hands, that is to say, 18not of this creation; 12and not through 19the blood of goats and calves, but 20through His own blood, He 21entered the holy place 22once for all, 23having obtained 24eternal redemption. 13For if 25the blood of goats and bulls and 26the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the 27cleansing of the flesh, 14how much more will 28the blood of Christ, who through 2930the eternal Spirit 31offered Himself without blemish to God, 32cleanse 33your conscience from 34dead works to serve 35the living God?

15For this reason 36He is the 37mediator of a 38new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been 39called may 40receive the promise of 41the eternal inheritance. 16For where a 42covenant is, there must of necessity 43be the death of the one who made it. 17For a 44covenant is valid only when 45men are dead, 46for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. 18Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. 19For when every commandment had been 47spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, 48he took the 49blood of the calves and the goats, with 50water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both 51the book itself and all the people, 20saying, “52This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” 21And in the same way he 53sprinkled both the 54tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. 22And according to the 55Law, one may 56almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and 57without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

23Therefore it was necessary for the 58copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but 59the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24For Christ 60did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of 61the true one, but into 62heaven itself, now 63to appear in the presence of God for us;
