Hebrews 6

The Peril of Falling Away

1Therefore 1leaving 2the 3elementary teaching about the 4Christ, let us press on to 56maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from 7dead works and of faith toward God, 2of 8instruction about washings and 9laying on of hands, and the 10resurrection of the dead and 11eternal judgment. 3And this we will do, 12if God permits. 4For in the case of those who have once been 13enlightened and have tasted of 14the heavenly gift and have been made 15partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5and 16have tasted the good 17word of God and the powers of 18the age to come, 6and then have fallen away, it is 19impossible to renew them again to repentance, 2021since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. 7For ground that drinks the rain which often 22falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those 23for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; 8but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and 24close 25to being cursed, and 26it ends up being burned.

Better Things for You

9But, 27beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that 28accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way. 10For 29God is not unjust so as to forget 30your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having 31ministered and in still ministering to the 32saints. 11And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence 33so as to realize the 34full assurance of 35hope until the end, 12so that you will not be sluggish, but 36imitators of those who through 37faith and patience 38inherit the promises.

13For 39when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He 40swore by Himself, 14saying, “41I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.” 15And so, 42having patiently waited, he obtained the promise. 1643For men swear by 44one greater than themselves, and with them 45an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute. 1746In the same way God, desiring even more to show to 47the heirs of the promise 48the unchangeableness of His purpose, 49interposed with an oath, 18so that by two unchangeable things in which 50it is impossible for God to lie, we who have 51taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of 52the hope set before us. 1953This 54hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which 55enters 56within the veil, 2057where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a 58high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
