Hebrews 5
The Perfect High Priest
1For every high priest 1taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in 2things pertaining to God, in order to 3offer both gifts and sacrifices 4for sins; 256he can deal gently with the 7ignorant and 8misguided, since he himself also is 910beset with weakness; 3and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices 11for sins, 12as for the people, so also for himself. 4And 13no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even 14as Aaron was.
5So also Christ 15did not glorify Himself so as to become a 16high priest, but He who 17said to Him, “18You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”; 6just as He says also in another passage, “19You are a priest forever According to 20the order of Melchizedek.” 721In the days of His flesh, 2223He offered up both prayers and supplications with 24loud crying and tears to the One 25able to save Him 26from death, and He 27was heard because of His 28piety. 8Although He was 29a Son, He learned 30obedience from the things which He suffered. 9And having been made 31perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, 10being designated by God as 32a high priest according to 33the order of Melchizedek.
11Concerning 34him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12For though 35by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you 36the 3738elementary principles of the 39oracles of God, and you have come to need 40milk and not solid food. 13For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an 41infant. 14But solid food is for 42the mature, who because of practice have their senses 43trained to 44discern good and evil.
