Hebrews 11:31-40
31By faith 1Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies 2in peace.
32And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of 3Gideon, 4Barak, 5Samson, 6Jephthah, of 7David and 8Samuel and the prophets, 33who by faith 9conquered kingdoms, 10performed acts of righteousness, 11obtained promises, 12shut the mouths of lions, 3413quenched the power of fire, 14escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, 15became mighty in war, 16put foreign armies to flight. 3517Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their 18release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; 36and others 19experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also 20chains and imprisonment. 37They were 21stoned, they were 22sawn in two, 23they were tempted, they were 24put to death with the sword; they went about 25in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, 26ill-treated 38(men of whom the world was not worthy), 27wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes 28in the ground.
39And all these, having 2930gained approval through their faith, 31did not receive 32what was promised, 40because God had 33provided 34something better for us, so that 35apart from us they would not be made perfect.
