Context of Ezekiel 3:23
21However, if you have warned the righteous man that the righteous should not sin and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; and you have delivered yourself.” 22The hand of the Lord was on me there, and He said to me, “Get up, go out to the plain, and there I will speak to you.” So I got up and went out to the plain; and behold, the glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory which I saw by the river Chebar, and I fell on my face. 24The Spirit then entered me and made me stand on my feet, and He spoke with me and said to me, “Go, shut yourself up in your house. 25As for you, son of man, they will put ropes on you and bind you with them so that you cannot go out among them.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 3:23
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 23A fresh revelation of the glory of the Lord, to impress upon Ezekiel another characteristic of his mission. Now he is to learn that there is “a time to be silent” as well as “a time to speak,” and that both are appointed by God. This represents forcibly the authoritative character and divine origin of the utterances of the Hebrew prophets.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-27Verses 22-27 Let us own ourselves for ever indebted to the mediation of Christ, for the blessed intercourse between God and man; and a true believer will say, I am never less alone than when thus alone. When the Lord opened Ezekiel's mouth, he was to deliver his message boldly, to place life and death, the blessing and the curse, before the people, and leave them to their choice.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 22-23The Lord called Ezekiel to go out into the valley. This was a lonely place, away from other people. This was the second time Ezekiel had seen the glory of the Lord. Even so, he had not become used to it. The greatness and holiness of God’s glory overwhelmed him, and he fell face down on the ground.Read the comment
