Context of Ezekiel 3:23
21However, if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he will certainly live because he was warned, and you will have saved your own life.” 22The hand of the Lord rested on me there, and he said to me, “Get up, go out to the valley, and I will speak with you there.” So I got up and went out to the valley, and the glory of the Lord was standing there, just like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River, and I threw myself face down. 24Then a wind came into me and stood me on my feet. The Lord spoke to me and said, “Go shut yourself in your house. 25As for you, son of man, they will put ropes on you and tie you up with them, so you cannot go out among them.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 3:23
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 23A fresh revelation of the glory of the Lord, to impress upon Ezekiel another characteristic of his mission. Now he is to learn that there is “a time to be silent” as well as “a time to speak,” and that both are appointed by God. This represents forcibly the authoritative character and divine origin of the utterances of the Hebrew prophets.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-27Verses 22-27 Let us own ourselves for ever indebted to the mediation of Christ, for the blessed intercourse between God and man; and a true believer will say, I am never less alone than when thus alone. When the Lord opened Ezekiel's mouth, he was to deliver his message boldly, to place life and death, the blessing and the curse, before the people, and leave them to their choice.Read the comment

The greatness and holiness of God’s glory overwhelmed him, and he fell face down on the ground.Read the comment
