New American Standard Bible 1995
1 Timothy 3:6-11
6and not a new convert, so that he will not become 1conceited and fall into the 2condemnation 3incurred by the devil. 7And he must 4have a good reputation with 5those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and 6the snare of the devil.
87Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not 8double-tongued, 910or addicted to much wine 1112or fond of sordid gain, 913but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 1014These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach. 1115Women must likewise be dignified, 16not malicious gossips, but 17temperate, faithful in all things.
