1 John 3:10-23

10By this the 1children of God and the 2children of the devil are obvious: 3anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who 4does not love his 5brother.

11 6For this is the message 7which you have heard from the beginning, 8that we should love one another; 12not as 9Cain, who was of 10the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because 11his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

13Do not be surprised, brethren, if 12the world hates you. 14We know that we have 13passed out of death into life, 14because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. 15Everyone who 15hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that 16no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16We know love by this, that 17He laid down His life for us; and 18we ought to lay down our lives for the 19brethren. 17But 20whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and 21closes his 22heart 23against him, 24how does the love of God abide in him? 18 25Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and 26truth. 19We will know by this that we are 27of the truth, and will 28assure our heart before Him 20 29in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things. 21 30Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have 31confidence 32before God; 22and 33whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we 34keep His commandments and do 35the things that are pleasing in His sight.

23This is His commandment, that we 36 37believe in 38the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as 39He 40commanded us.
