1 Samuel 10:24-27
24SamuelH8050 saidH559 toH413 allH3605 the peopleH5971, “Do you seeH7200 the oneH834 the LORDH3068H3588 has chosenH977? There is no oneH369 like himH3644 among allH3605 the peopleH5971.”
And allH3605 the peopleH5971H559 shoutedH7321, “Long liveH2421 the kingH4428!”
25Then SamuelH8050 explainedH1696 toH413 the peopleH5971 the rightsH4941 of kingshipH4410. He wrote themH3789 on a scrollH5612 and laid it upH5117 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. And SamuelH8050 sent allH3605 the peopleH5971 awayH7971, eachH376 to his own homeH1004.
26SaulH7586 alsoH1571 wentH1980 to his homeH1004 in GibeahH1390, and the men of valorH2428 whoseH834 heartsH3820 GodH430 had touchedH5060 wentH1980 with himH5973.
27But some worthlessH1100 menH1121 saidH559, “HowH4100 can thisH2088 man save usH3467?” So they despised himH959 and broughtH935 him noH3808 giftsH4503; but Saul remainedH1961 silentH2790 about it.1
Notes
- 1. 1 Samuel 10:27 MT and LXX; one DSS manuscript includes Nahash, king of the Ammonites, had viciously oppressed the people of Gad and Reuben, gouging out the right eye of each Israelite dwelling there. He would not allow anyone to rescue them, and there was no Israelite east of the Jordan whose right eye had not been gouged out. But 7,000 men had escaped from the Ammonites and settled in Jabesh-gilead. ↩
