1 In the third year בִּשְׁנַ֣ת bish.Nat H8141 of the reign לְמַלְכ֖וּת le.mal.Khut H4438 of king הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 Belshazzar a vision חָז֞וֹן cha.Zon H2377 appeared נִרְאָ֤ה nir.'Ah H7200 unto me , even unto me , Daniel דָנִיֵּ֔אל da.ni.Yel H1840 , after that which appeared הַנִּרְאָ֥ה ha.nir.'Ah H7200 unto me at the first H8462 . 2 And I saw H7200 in the vision בֶּחָזוֹן֒ be.cha.zOn H2377 ; now it was H1961 so , that when I saw H7200 , I was H1961 in Shushan the palace, which is in the province הַמְּדִינָ֑ה ha.me.di.Nah H4082 of Elam בְּעֵילָ֣ם be.'ei.Lam H5867 ; and I saw H7200 in the vision בֶּֽחָז֔וֹן be.cha.Zon H2377 , and I was H1961 by the river Ulai אוּלָֽי׃ 'u.Lai H195 . 3 Then I lifted וָאֶשָּׂ֤א va.'e.Sa' H5375 up mine eyes עֵינַי֙ 'ei.Nai H5869 , and saw H7200 , and , behold , there stood עֹמֵ֛ד 'o.Med H5975 before the river a ram אַ֣יִל 'A.yil H352 which had two horns קְרָנָ֑יִם ke.ra.Na.yim H7161 : and the two horns וְהַקְּרָנַ֣יִם ve.ha.ke.ra.Na.yim H7161 were high גְּבֹה֗וֹת ge.vo.Hot H1364 ; but one H259 was higher גְּבֹהָ֣ה ge.vo.Hah H1364 than the other , and the higher וְהַ֨גְּבֹהָ֔ה ve.Ha.ge.vo.Hah H1364 came H5927 up last בָּאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃ ba.'a.cha.ro.Nah H314 . 4 I saw H7200 the ram הָאַ֡יִל ha.'A.yil H352 pushing westward , and northward , and southward ; and no beasts could stand H5975 before him , neither was there any that could deliver מַצִּ֖יל ma.Tzil H5337 out of his hand מִיָּד֑וֹ mi.ya.Do H3027 ; but he did according to his will , and magnified H1431 himself . 5 And as I was considering, behold , a he-goat came H935 from the west הַֽמַּעֲרָב֙ ha.ma.'a.Rav H4628 over the face H6440 of the whole earth H776 , and touched נוֹגֵ֖עַ no.Ge.a' H5060 not the ground H776 : and the goat הָֽעִזִּים֙ ha.'i.Zim H5795 had a notable horn קֶ֥רֶן Ke.ren H7161 between his eyes עֵינָֽיו׃ 'ei.Nav H5869 . 6 And he came H935 to the ram הָאַ֙יִל֙ ha.'A.yil H352 that had the two horns הַקְּרָנַ֔יִם ha.ke.ra.Na.yim H7161 , which I saw H7200 standing עֹמֵ֖ד 'o.Med H5975 before the river , and ran H7323 upon him in the fury of his power H3581 . 7 And I saw H7200 him come close unto the ram הָאַ֗יִל ha.'A.yil H352 , and he was H1961 moved with anger against him , and smote the ram הָאַ֔יִל ha.'A.yil H352 , and brake his two שְׁתֵּ֣י she.Tei H8147 horns קְרָנָ֔יו ke.ra.Nav H7161 ; and there was H1961 no power in the ram בָּאַ֖יִל ba.'A.yil H352 to stand לַעֲמֹ֣ד la.'a.Mod H5975 before him ; but he cast H7993 him down H5221 to the ground אַ֙רְצָה֙ 'ar.tzah H776 , and trampled H7429 upon him ; and there was H1961 none that could deliver מַצִּ֛יל ma.Tzil H5337 the ram לָאַ֖יִל la.'A.yil H352 out of his hand מִיָּדֽוֹ׃ mi.ya.Do H3027 . 8 And the he-goat magnified H1431 himself exceedingly H3966 : and when he was strong , the great הַגְּדוֹלָ֔ה ha.ge.do.Lah H1419 horn הַקֶּ֣רֶן ha.Ke.ren H7161 was broken H7665 ; and instead of it there came H5927 up four אַרְבַּע֙ 'ar.Ba' H702 notable horns H7161 toward the four לְאַרְבַּ֖ע le.'ar.Ba' H702 winds רוּח֥וֹת ru.Chot H7307 of heaven הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ ha.sha.Ma.yim H8064 . 9 And out of one H259 of them came H3318 forth H3318 a little horn קֶֽרֶן־ ke.ren- H7161 , which waxed exceeding great וַתִּגְדַּל־ va.tig.dal- H1431 , toward the south הַנֶּ֥גֶב ha.Ne.gev H5045 , and toward the east הַמִּזְרָ֖ח ha.miz.Rach H4217 , and toward the glorious land. 10 And it waxed great וַתִּגְדַּ֖ל va.tig.Dal H1431 , even to the host צְבָ֣א tze.Va' H6635 of heaven הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם ha.sha.Ma.yim H8064 ; and some of the host הַצָּבָ֥א ha.tza.Va' H6635 and of the stars הַכּוֹכָבִ֖ים ha.ko.kha.Vim H3556 it cast H5307 down H5307 to the ground אַ֛רְצָה 'Ar.tzah H776 , and trampled H7429 upon them . 11 Yea, it magnified H1431 itself , even to the prince H8269 of the host הַצָּבָ֖א ha.tza.Va' H6635 ; and it took H7311 away H7993 from him the continual burnt-offering, and the place מְכ֥וֹן me.Khon H4349 of his sanctuary מִקְדָּשֽׁוֹ׃ mik.da.Sho H4720 was cast H7993 down וְהֻשְׁלַ֖ךְ ve.hush.Lakh H7993 . 12 And the host H6635 was given H5414 over to it together with the continual burnt-offering through transgression בְּפָ֑שַׁע be.Fa.sha' H6588 ; and it cast H7993 down וְתַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ ve.tash.Lekh H7993 truth אֱמֶת֙ 'e.Met H571 to the ground אַ֔רְצָה 'Ar.tzah H776 , and it did its pleasure and prospered. 13 Then I heard H8085 a holy H6944 one אֶֽחָד־ 'e.chod- H259 speaking H1696 ; and another holy H6944 one אֶחָ֨ד 'e.Chad H259 said H559 unto that certain one H259 who spake, How long shall be the vision הֶחָז֤וֹן he.cha.Zon H2377 concerning the continual burnt-offering, and the transgression וְהַפֶּ֣שַׁע ve.ha.Pe.sha' H6588 that maketh desolate שֹׁמֵ֔ם sho.Mem H8074 , to give תֵּ֛ת tet H5414 both the sanctuary וְקֹ֥דֶשׁ ve.Ko.desh H6944 and the host H6635 to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said H559 unto me , Unto two H3967 thousand אַלְפַּ֖יִם 'al.Pa.yim H505 and three וּשְׁלֹ֣שׁ u.she.Losh H7969 hundred H3967 evenings עֶ֣רֶב 'E.rev H6153 and mornings בֹּ֔קֶר Bo.ker H1242 ; then shall the sanctuary קֹֽדֶשׁ׃ Ko.desh H6944 be cleansed. 15 And it came to pass , when I , even I Daniel דָנִיֵּ֖אל da.ni.Yel H1840 , had seen H7200 the vision הֶחָז֑וֹן he.cha.Zon H2377 , that I sought H1245 to understand בִינָ֔ה vi.Nah H998 it ; and , behold , there stood עֹמֵ֥ד 'o.Med H5975 before me as the appearance כְּמַרְאֵה־ ke.mar.'eh- H4758 of a man גָֽבֶר׃ Ga.ver H1397 . 18 Now as he was speaking H1696 with me , I fell into a deep sleep with my face פָּנַ֖י pa.Nai H6440 toward the ground אָ֑רְצָה 'A.re.tzah H776 ; but he touched וַיִּ֨גַּע־ vai.Yi.ga'- H5060 me , and set H5975 me upright . 20 The ram הָאַ֥יִל ha.'A.yil H352 which thou sawest, that had the two horns הַקְּרָנָ֑יִם ha.ke.ra.Na.yim H7161 , they are the kings מַלְכֵ֖י mal.Khei H4428 of Media מָדַ֥י ma.Dai H4074 and Persia וּפָרָֽס׃ u.fa.Ras H6539 . 21 And the rough he-goat is the king מֶ֣לֶךְ Me.lekh H4428 of Greece יָוָ֑ן ya.Van H3120 : and the great הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ ha.ge.do.Lah H1419 horn וְהַקֶּ֤רֶן ve.ha.Ke.ren H7161 that is between his eyes עֵינָ֔יו 'ei.Nav H5869 is the first הָרִאשֽׁוֹן׃ ha.ri.Shon H7223 king הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 . 22 And as for that which was broken H7665 , in the place תַּחְתֶּ֑יהָ tach.Tei.ha H8478 whereof four אַרְבַּ֖ע 'ar.Ba' H702 stood H5975 up , four אַרְבַּ֧ע 'ar.Ba' H702 kingdoms H4438 shall stand H5975 up out of the nation מִגּ֥וֹי mi.Goy H1471 , but not with his power בְכֹחֽוֹ׃ ve.kho.Cho H3581 . 23 And in the latter H319 time of their kingdom H4438 , when the transgressors H6586 are come to the full , a king מֶ֥לֶךְ Me.lekh H4428 of fierce H5794 countenance , and understanding וּמֵבִ֥ין u.me.Vin H995 dark sentences, shall stand H5975 up . 24 And his power כֹּחוֹ֙ ko.Cho H3581 shall be mighty עֲצוּמִ֖ים 'a.tzu.Mim H6099 , but not by his own power בְכֹח֔וֹ ve.kho.Cho H3581 ; and he shall destroy יַשְׁחִ֖ית yash.Chit H7843 wonderfully, and shall prosper H6743 and do his pleasure; and he shall destroy וְהִשְׁחִ֥ית ve.hish.Chit H7843 the mighty H6099 ones H6918 and the holy קְדֹשִֽׁים׃ ke.do.Shim H6918 people וְעַם־ ve.'am- H5971 . 25 And through his policy he shall cause craft to prosper H6743 in his hand בְּיָד֔וֹ be.ya.Do H3027 ; and he shall magnify יַגְדִּ֔יל yag.Dil H1431 himself in his heart וּבִלְבָב֣וֹ u.vil.va.Vo H3824 , and in their security shall he destroy יַשְׁחִ֣ית yash.Chit H7843 many רַבִּ֑ים ra.Bim H7227 : he shall also stand יַעֲמֹ֔ד ya.'a.Mod H5975 up against the prince H8269 of princes H8269 ; but he shall be broken H7665 without hand יָ֖ד yad H3027 . 26 And the vision הֶֽחָז֔וֹן he.cha.Zon H2377 of the evenings הָעֶ֧רֶב ha.'E.rev H6153 and mornings וְהַבֹּ֛קֶר ve.ha.Bo.ker H1242 which hath been told is true : but shut thou up the vision H2377 ; for it belongeth to many רַבִּֽים׃ ra.Bim H7227 days לְיָמִ֥ים le.ya.Mim H3117 to come. 27 And I , Daniel דָנִיֵּ֗אל da.ni.Yel H1840 , fainted, and was sick וְנֶֽחֱלֵ֙יתִי֙ ve.ne.che.Lei.ti H2470 certain days יָמִ֔ים ya.Mim H3117 ; then I rose H6965 up , and did the king’s הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 business H4399 : and I wondered at the vision הַמַּרְאֶ֖ה ha.mar.'Eh H4758 , but none understood מֵבִֽין׃ פ me.Vin H995 it . ← Daniel 7 Daniel 9 → American Standard Version — 1901 — Public Domain
