Context of Luke 9:48
46Now a dispute began between the disciples as to who might be the greatest among them. 47But Yeshua, knowing the reasoning of their heart, took a child and set him by His side. He said to them, “Whoever welcomes this child in My name, welcomes Me. And whoever welcomes Me, welcomes the One who sent Me. The one who is the least among all of you is the one who is great.” 49John replied, “Master, we saw someone driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him because he doesn’t follow along with us.” 50Yeshua said to him, “Do not stop him, for he who is not against you is for you.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 43-50Verses 43-50 This prediction of Christ's sufferings was plain enough, but the disciples would not understand it, because it agreed not with their notions. A little child is the emblem by which Christ teaches us simplicity and humility. What greater honour can any man attain to in this world, than to be received by men as a messenger of God and Christ; and to have God and Christ own themselves received and welcomed in him! If ever any society of Christians…Read the comment

Jesus took the lowest and most vulnerable members of society and announced that welcoming them was the same as welcoming him. in My name: This means “as my representative.” whoever is the least among all of…Read the comment
