Revised Version 1895
2 Samuel 24:1-14
1And againH3254 the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 againstH2734 IsraelH3478, and he movedH5496 DavidH1732 againstH2734 them, sayingH559, Go, numberH4487 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063.
2And the kingH4428 saidH559 to JoabH3097 the captainH8269 of the host, whichH834 was with him, GoH4994 nowH4994 to and fro throughH3605 allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, from DanH1835 evenH5704 to Beer-sheba, and numberH4557 ye the peopleH5971, that I may knowH3045 the sum of the peopleH5971.
3And JoabH3097 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, NowH6471 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 addH3254 unto the peopleH5971, howH4100 manyH4100 soever they be, an hundredfold, and may the eyesH5869 of my lordH3068 the kingH4428 seeH7200 it: but whyH4100 doth my lordH3068 the kingH4428 delightH2654 in this thingH1697?
4Notwithstanding the king’sH4428 wordH1697 prevailedH2388 againstH5921 JoabH3097, and againstH5921 the captainsH8269 of the host. And JoabH3097 and the captainsH8269 of the host wentH3318 outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of the kingH4428, to numberH6485 the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478.
5And they passedH5674 over JordanH3383, and pitchedH2583 in AroerH6177, on the rightH3225 sideH3225 of the cityH5892 that is in the middleH8432 of the valleyH5158 of GadH1410, and unto JazerH3270.
6then they cameH935 to GileadH1568, and to the landH776 of Tahtim-hodshiH8483; and they cameH935 to Dan-jaanH1842, and roundH5439 aboutH5439 to Zidon,
7and cameH935 to the strong hold of TyreH6865, and to allH3605 the citiesH5892 of the HivitesH2340, and of the CanaanitesH3669: and they wentH3318 outH3318 to the southH5045 of JudahH3063, at Beer-sheba.
8SoH935 when they had goneH935 to and fro throughH935 allH3605 the landH776, they cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 at the endH7097 of nineH8672 monthsH2320 and twentyH6242 daysH3117.
9And JoabH3097 gaveH5414 upH5414 the sum of the numberingH4557 of the peopleH5971 unto the kingH4428: and there were in IsraelH3478 eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH505 valiantH2428 menH376 that drewH8025 the swordH2719; and the menH376 of JudahH3063 were fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH505 menH376.
10And David’sH1732 heartH3820 smoteH5221 him afterH310 that he had numberedH5608 the peopleH5971. And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto the LORDH3068, I have sinnedH2398 greatlyH3966 in that I have doneH6213: but nowH6258, O LORDH3068, put awayH310, I beseechH4994 thee, the iniquityH5771 of thy servantH5650; for I have doneH6213 veryH3966 foolishlyH5528.
11And when DavidH1732 roseH6965 upH6965 in the morningH1242, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 unto the prophetH5030 GadH1410, David’sH1732 seerH2374, sayingH559,
12GoH1980 and speakH1696 unto DavidH1732, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, I offerH6213 thee threeH7969 things; chooseH977 thee one of them, that I may doH6213 it unto thee.
13SoH7971 GadH1410 cameH935 to DavidH1732, and toldH5046 him, and saidH559 unto him, Shall sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 comeH935 unto thee in thy landH776? or wilt thou fleeH5127 threeH7969 monthsH2320 beforeH6440 thy foes whileH1961 they pursueH7291 thee? or shall there be threeH7969 daysH3117 pestilenceH1698 in thy landH776? nowH6258 advise thee, and considerH7200 whatH4100 answerH7725 I shall returnH7725 to him that sentH7971 meH413.
14And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto GadH1410, I am in a greatH3966 strait: letH4994 usH4994 fallH5307 nowH4994 intoH413 the handH3027 of the LORDH3068; for his merciesH7356 are greatH3966: and letH4994 meH413 notH408 fallH5307 intoH413 the handH3027 of manH120.
