Context of Luke 9:35
33Then as the men were starting to leave, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah” – not knowing what he was saying. 34As he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. Then a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him!” 36After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. So they kept silent and told no one at that time anything of what they had seen. 37Now on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a large crowd met him.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 35This is my beloved Son - Instead of ̔ , the beloved one, some MSS. and versions have , the chosen one: and the Ethiopic translator, as in several other cases, to be sure of the true reading, retains both. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment
