Context of Luke 9:35
33And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah"—not knowing what he said. 34As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!" 36And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen. 37On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 35This is my beloved Son - Instead of ̔ , the beloved one, some MSS. and versions have , the chosen one: and the Ethiopic translator, as in several other cases, to be sure of the true reading, retains both. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment
