8Now Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732and his menH376wentוַיַּ֤עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927up and raidedוַֽיִּפְשְׁט֛וּvai.yif.she.TuH6584the Geshuritesהַגְּשׁוּרִ֥יha.ge.shu.RiH1651and the GirzitesH1629andthe Amalekitesוְהָעֲמָלֵקִ֑יve.ha.'a.mal.KiH6003;for they were the inhabitantsיֹשְׁב֤וֹתyo.she.VotH3427of the landהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ha.'A.retzH776from ancientH5769timesH5769,as you comeבּוֹאֲךָ֥bo.'a.KhaH935toShurשׁ֖וּרָהShu.rahH7793even as farוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704as the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

9Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732attackedוְהִכָּ֤הve.hi.KahH5221the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776and did not leaveH2421a manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376or a womanוְאִשָּׁ֑הve.'i.ShahH802aliveH2421, and hetookוְלָקַח֩ve.la.KachH3947away the sheepצֹ֨אןtzonH6629,the cattleוּבָקָ֜רu.va.KarH1241,the donkeysוַחֲמֹרִ֤יםva.cha.mo.RimH2543,the camelsוּגְמַלִּים֙u.ge.ma.LimH1581,and the clothingוּבְגָדִ֔יםu.ve.ga.DimH899.Then he returnedוַיָּ֖שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725and cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Achishאָכִֽישׁ׃'a.KhishH397.

10Now Achishאָכִ֔ישׁ'a.KhishH397saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “WhereH575have youmadeפְּשַׁטְתֶּ֖םpe.sha.TemH6584a raidH6584todayהַיּ֑וֹםhai.YomH3117?”And Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Againstעַל־'al-H5921theNegevנֶ֤גֶבNe.gevH5045of Judahיְהוּדָה֙ye.hu.DahH3063and againstוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921theNegevנֶ֣גֶבNe.gevH5045ofthe Jerahmeelitesהַיַּרְחְמְאֵלִ֔יhai.yar.che.me.'e.LiH3397and againstH413theNegevנֶ֖גֶבNe.gevH5045ofthe Kenitesהַקֵּינִֽי׃ha.kei.NiH7017.”

11Davidדָוִ֗דda.VidH1732did not leaveH2421a manוְאִ֨ישׁve.'IshH376or a womanוְאִשָּׁ֜הve.'i.ShahH802aliveH2421to bringלְהָבִ֥יאle.ha.Vi'H935to Gathגַת֙gatH1661,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Otherwiseפֶּן־pen-H6435they will tellיַגִּ֥דוּya.Gi.duH5046aboutעָלֵ֖ינוּ'a.Lei.nuH5921us, sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, ‘Soכֹּֽה־koh-H3541has Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732doneעָשָׂ֤ה'a.SahH6213and soוְכֹ֣הve.KhohH3541has beenhis practiceמִשְׁפָּט֔וֹmish.pa.ToH4941allכָּל־kol-H3605the timeהַ֨יָּמִ֔יםhai.ya.MimH3117he has livedיָשַׁ֖בya.ShavH3427in the countryבִּשְׂדֵ֥הbis.DehH7704of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃fe.lish.TimH6430.’”

12So Achishאָכִ֖ישׁ'a.KhishH397believedוַיַּאֲמֵ֥ןvai.ya.'a.MenH539Davidבְּדָוִ֣דbe.da.VidH1732,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “He has surelyH887madeH887himself odiousH887among his peopleבְּעַמּ֣וֹbe.'a.MoH5971Israelבְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לve.Yis.ra.'ElH3478;therefore he will becomeוְהָ֥יָהve.Ha.yahH1961my servantלְעֶ֥בֶדle.'E.vedH5650foreverעוֹלָֽם׃ פo.LamH5769.”
