1Then the Ziphitesהַזִּפִים֙ha.zi.FimH2130cameוַיָּבֹ֤אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586at Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֖תָהha.giv.'A.tahH1390,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Is not Davidדָוִ֤דda.VidH1732hidingמִסְתַּתֵּר֙mis.ta.TerH5641on the hillבְּגִבְעַ֣תbe.giv.'AtH1389of Hachilahהַחֲכִילָ֔הha.cha.khi.LahH2444, which isbeforeעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֥י'al pe.NeiH5921 H6440Jeshimonהַיְשִׁימֹֽן׃hay.shi.MonH3452?”

2So Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586aroseוַיָּ֣קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and wentH3381downוַיֵּ֙רֶד֙vai.Ye.redH3381to the wildernessמִדְבַּר־mid.bar-H4057of Ziphזִ֔יףZifH2128, having with himthreeשְׁלֹֽשֶׁת־she.lo.shet-H7969thousandאֲלָפִ֥ים'a.la.FimH505chosenבְּחוּרֵ֣יbe.chu.ReiH977menאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,to searchלְבַקֵּ֥שׁle.va.KeshH1245for Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732in the wildernessבְּמִדְבַּר־be.mid.bar-H4057of Ziphזִֽיף׃ZifH2128.

3Saulשָׁא֜וּלsha.'UlH7586campedוַיִּ֨חַןvai.Yi.chanH2583in the hillבְּגִבְעַ֣תbe.giv.'AtH1389of Hachilahהַחֲכִילָ֗הha.cha.khi.LahH2444,whichאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834is beforeעַל־ פְּנֵ֥י'al- pe.NeiH5921 H6440Jeshimonהַיְשִׁימֹ֖ןhay.shi.MonH3452,besideעַל־'al-H5921the roadהַדָּ֑רֶךְha.Da.rekhH1870,and Davidוְדָוִד֙ve.da.VidH1732was stayingיֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּ֔רba.mid.BarH4057. Whenhe sawוַיַּ֕רְאvai.Yar'H7200that Saulשָׁא֛וּלsha.'UlH7586cameבָ֥אva'H935afterאַחֲרָ֖יו'a.cha.RavH310him into the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּֽרָה׃ha.mid.Ba.rahH4057,

4Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971out spiesמְרַגְּלִ֑יםme.ra.ge.LimH7270,and he knewוַיֵּ֕דַעvai.Ye.da'H3045that Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586was definitelyנָכֽוֹן׃na.KhonH3559comingבָ֥אva'H935.

5Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732then aroseוַיָּ֣קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and cameוַיָּבֹא֮vai.ya.Vo'H935to the placeהַמָּקוֹם֮ha.ma.kOmH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁ֣ם'a.Sher shamH834 H8033Saulשָׁאוּל֒sha.'UlH7586had campedחָנָה־cha.nah-H2583.And Davidדָּוִ֗דda.VidH1732sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200the placeהַמָּקוֹם֙ha.ma.kOmH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁ֣ם'a.Sher shamH834 H8033Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586layשָֽׁכַב־sha.khav-H7901, andAbnerוְאַבְנֵ֥רve.'av.NerH74the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nerנֵ֖רnerH5369,the commanderשַׂר־sar-H8269of his armyצְבָא֑וֹtze.va.'OH6635;and Saulוְשָׁאוּל֙ve.sha.'UlH7586was lyingשֹׁכֵ֣בsho.KhevH7901in the circleH4570of the campבַּמַּעְגָּ֔לba.ma'.GalH4570,and the peopleוְהָעָ֖םve.ha.'AmH5971were campedחֹנִ֥יםcho.NimH2583aroundסְבִיבֹתָֽיו׃se.vi.vo.tovH5439him.

6Then Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559to Ahimelechאֲחִימֶ֣לֶךְ'a.chi.Me.lekhH288the Hittiteהַחִתִּ֗יha.chi.TiH2850and toAbishaiאֲבִישַׁ֨י'a.vi.ShaiH52the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֜הtze.ru.YahH6870,Joab’sיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097brotherאֲחִ֤י'a.ChiH251,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Whoמִֽי־mi-H4310will goיֵרֵ֥דye.RedH3381downH3381with me to Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586in the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הha.ma.cha.NehH4264?”And Abishaiאֲבִישַׁ֔י'a.vi.ShaiH52saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I will goאֵרֵ֥ד'e.RedH3381downH3381with you.”

7So Davidדָוִ֨דda.VidH1732and Abishaiוַאֲבִישַׁ֥י׀va.'a.vi.ShaiH52cameוַיָּבֹא֩vai.ya.Vo'H935to the peopleהָעָם֮ha.'AmH5971by nightלַיְלָה֒lay.LahH3915,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֣הve.hi.NehH2009,Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586layשֹׁכֵ֤בsho.KhevH7901sleepingיָשֵׁן֙ya.ShenH3463inside the circleH4570of the campבַּמַּעְגָּ֔לba.ma'.GalH4570with his spearוַחֲנִית֥וֹva.cha.ni.ToH2595stuckמְעוּכָֽה־me.'u.khah-H4600in the groundבָאָ֖רֶץva.'A.retzH776at his headמְרַאֲשֹׁתָ֑יוme.ra.'a.sho.tovH4763;and Abnerוְאַבְנֵ֣רve.'av.NerH74and the peopleוְהָעָ֔םve.ha.'AmH5971were lyingשֹׁכְבִ֖יםsho.khe.VimH7901aroundסְבִיבֹתָֽיו׃ סse.vi.vo.tovH5439him.

8Then Abishaiאֲבִישַׁי֙'a.vi.ShaiH52saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732, “Todayהַיּ֛וֹםhai.YomH3117Godאֱלֹהִ֥ים'E.lo.HimH430has deliveredסִגַּ֨רsi.GarH5462your enemyH340into your handבְּיָדֶ֑ךָbe.ya.De.khaH3027;nowוְעַתָּה֩ve.'a.TahH6258therefore, pleaseנָ֜אna'H4994let me strikeאַכֶּ֨נּוּ'ak.Ke.nuH5221him with the spearבַּחֲנִ֤יתba.cha.NitH2595to the groundוּבָאָ֙רֶץ֙u.va.'A.retzH776with oneאַחַ֔ת'a.ChatH259strokeפַּ֣עַםPa.'amH6471, and I will notstrike him the secondH8138timeH8138.”

9But Davidדָּוִ֛דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Abishaiאֲבִישַׁ֖י'a.vi.ShaiH52, “Do not destroyתַּשְׁחִיתֵ֑הוּtash.chi.Te.huH7843him, forwhoמִ֣יmiH4310can stretchשָׁלַ֥חsha.LachH7971out his handיָד֛וֹya.DoH3027against the Lord’sיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068anointedבִּמְשִׁ֥יחַbim.Shi.achH4899and be withoutH5352guiltוְנִקָּֽה׃ פve.ni.KahH5352?”

10Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732also saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “As the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416,surelyכִּ֥י אִם־ki 'im-H3588 H518the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068will strikeיִגָּפֶ֑נּוּyi.ga.Fe.nuH5062him, orאֽוֹ־'ov-H176his dayיוֹמ֤וֹyo.MoH3117will comeיָבוֹא֙ya.Vo'H935that he diesוָמֵ֔תva.MetH4191,orא֧וֹ'oH176he will goיֵרֵ֖דye.RedH3381downH3381into battleבַמִּלְחָמָ֛הva.mil.cha.MahH4421and perishוְנִסְפָּֽה׃ve.nis.PahH5595.

11The Lordמֵֽיהוָ֔הme.Yah.wehH3068forbidחָלִ֤ילָהcha.Li.lahH2486that I should stretchמִשְּׁלֹ֥חַmi.she.Lo.achH7971out my handיָדִ֖יya.DiH3027against the Lord’sיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068anointedבִּמְשִׁ֣יחַbim.Shi.achH4899;but nowוְ֠עַתָּהVe.'a.tahH6258pleaseנָ֨אna'H4994takeקַח־kach-H3947the spearהַחֲנִ֜יתha.cha.NitH2595that is at his headמְרַאֲשֹׁתָ֛יוme.ra.'a.sho.tovH4763and the jugצַפַּ֥חַתtza.Pa.chatH6835of waterהַמַּ֖יִםha.Ma.yimH4325,and let us goוְנֵ֥לֲכָהve.Ne.la.khahH1980.”

12So Davidדָּוִ֨דda.VidH1732tookוַיִּקַּח֩vai.yi.KachH3947the spearהַחֲנִ֜יתha.cha.NitH2595and the jugצַפַּ֤חַתtza.Pa.chatH6835of waterהַמַּ֙יִם֙ha.Ma.yimH4325from besideSaul’sשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586headH4763,and they wentוַיֵּלְכ֖וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980away, but noוְאֵ֣יןve.'EinH369oneוְאֵ֨יןve.'EinH369sawרֹאֶה֩ro.'EhH7200or knewיוֹדֵ֜עַyo.De.a'H3045it,norוְאֵ֣יןve.'EinH369did any awakeH7019,for they were allכֻלָּם֙khu.LamH3605asleepיְשֵׁנִ֔יםye.she.NimH3463,becauseH3588a soundH8639sleepתַּרְדֵּמַ֣תtar.de.MatH8639from the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had fallenנָפְלָ֖הna.fe.LahH5307on them.
