14But Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatוּמֶ֛הu.MehH4100then is thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088bleatingקֽוֹל־kol-H6963of the sheepהַצֹּ֥אןha.TzonH6629in my earsבְּאָזְנָ֑יbe.'a.ze.NaiH241, and thelowingוְק֣וֹלve.KolH6963of the oxenהַבָּקָ֔רha.ba.KarH1241whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I hearשֹׁמֵֽעַ׃sho.Me.a'H8085?”

15Saulשָׁא֜וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “They have broughtהֱבִיא֗וּםhe.vi.'UmH935them from the Amalekitesמֵעֲמָלֵקִ֣יme.'a.mal.KiH6003, forthe peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971sparedחָמַ֤לcha.MalH2550the bestמֵיטַ֤בmei.TavH4315of the sheepהַצֹּאן֙ha.tzoNH6629and oxenוְהַבָּקָ֔רve.ha.ba.KarH1241,to sacrificeזְבֹ֖חַze.Vo.achH2076to the Lordלַיהוָ֣הla.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430;but the restH3498we have utterlyH2763destroyedהֶחֱרַֽמְנוּ׃ סhe.che.Ram.nuH2763.”

16Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586, “Waitהֶ֚רֶףHe.refH7503,and let me tellוְאַגִּ֣ידָהve.'a.Gi.dahH5046you whatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068saidדִּבֶּ֧רdi.BerH1696to me last nightהַלָּ֑יְלָהha.La.ye.lahH3915.”And he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.yo.me.ruH559to him, “Speakדַּבֵּֽר׃ סda.BerH1696!”

17Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Is it not true,thoughאִם־'im-H518you were littleקָטֹ֤ןka.TonH6996in your own eyesבְּעֵינֶ֔יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869, you were madethe headרֹ֛אשׁroshH7218of the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֥יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478?And the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068anointedוַיִּמְשָׁחֲךָ֧vai.yim.sha.cha.KhaH4886you kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478,

18and the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068sentוַיִּשְׁלָחֲךָ֥vai.yish.la.cha.KhaH7971you on amissionבְּדָ֑רֶךְbe.Da.rekhH1870,and saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, ‘Goלֵ֣ךְlekhH1980and utterlyH2763destroyוְהַחֲרַמְתָּ֞הve.ha.cha.ram.TahH2763the sinnersהַֽחַטָּאִים֙ha.cha.ta.'ImH2400,the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵ֔ק'a.ma.LekH6002,and fightוְנִלְחַמְתָּ֣ve.nil.cham.TaH3898against them untilעַ֥ד'adH5704they are exterminatedכַּלּוֹתָ֖םka.lo.TamH3615.’

19Whyוְלָ֥מָּהve.La.mahH4100then did you not obeyשָׁמַ֖עְתָּsha.Ma'.taH8085the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,but rushedוַתַּ֙עַט֙va.Ta.'atH5860upon the spoilהַשָּׁלָ֔לha.sha.LalH7998and didוַתַּ֥עַשׂva.Ta.'asH6213whatH7451was evilH7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֥יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068?”

20Then Saulשָׁא֜וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֗לshe.mu.'ElH8050, “I did obeyשָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙sha.Ma'.tiH8085the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and wentוָאֵלֵ֕ךְva.'e.LekhH1980on themissionבַּדֶּ֖רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870on whichH834the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068sentשְׁלָחַ֣נִיshe.la.Cha.niH7971me, and have broughtוָאָבִ֗יאva.'a.Vi'H935back Agagאֲגַג֙'a.GagH90the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Amalekעֲמָלֵ֔ק'a.ma.LekH6002,and have utterlyH2763destroyedהֶחֱרַֽמְתִּי׃he.che.Ram.tiH2763the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵ֖ק'a.ma.LekH6002.

21Butthe peopleהָעָ֧םha.'AmH5971tookוַיִּקַּ֨חvai.yi.KachH3947someof the spoilמֵהַשָּׁלָ֛לme.ha.sha.LalH7998,sheepצֹ֥אןtzonH6629and oxenוּבָקָ֖רu.va.KarH1241,the choicestרֵאשִׁ֣יתre.ShitH7225of the thingsH2764devotedH2764to destructionהַחֵ֑רֶםha.Che.remH2764,to sacrificeלִזְבֹּ֛חַliz.Bo.achH2076to the Lordלַֽיהוָ֥הla.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430at Gilgalבַּגִּלְגָּֽל׃ba.gil.GalH1537.”

22Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֗לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Has the Lordלַֽיהוָה֙la.Yah.wehH3068as much delightהַחֵ֤פֶץha.Che.fetzH2656in burntבְּעֹל֣וֹתbe.'o.LotH5930offeringsH5930and sacrificesוּזְבָחִ֔יםu.ze.va.ChimH2077As in obeyingכִּשְׁמֹ֖עַkish.Mo.a'H8085the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068?Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,to obeyשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙she.Mo.a'H8085is betterט֔וֹבTovH2896thanH4480sacrificeמִזֶּ֣בַחmi.Ze.vachH2077, Andto heedלְהַקְשִׁ֖יבle.hak.ShivH7181thanH4480the fatמֵחֵ֥לֶבme.Che.levH2459of ramsאֵילִֽים׃'ei.LimH352.

23For rebellionמֶ֔רִיMe.riH4805is as the sinחַטַּאת־cha.tat-H2403ofdivinationקֶ֙סֶם֙ke.semH7081,And insubordinationהַפְצַ֑רhaf.TzarH6484is asiniquityוְאָ֥וֶןve.'A.venH205and idolatryוּתְרָפִ֖יםu.te.ra.FimH8655.Becauseיַ֗עַןYa.'anH3282you have rejectedמָאַ֙סְתָּ֙ma.'As.taH3988the wordדְּבַ֣רde.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,He has also rejectedוַיִּמְאָסְךָ֖vai.yim.'a.se.KhaH3988you from beingkingמִמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ סmi.Me.lekhH4428.”

24Then Saulשָׁא֤וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050, “I have sinnedחָטָ֔אתִיcha.Ta.tiH2398;I have indeedכִּֽי־ki-H3588transgressedעָבַ֥רְתִּי'a.Var.tiH5674thecommandפִּֽי־pi-H6310of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and your wordsדְּבָרֶ֑יךָde.va.Rei.khaH1697,becauseכִּ֤יkiH3588I fearedיָרֵ֙אתִי֙ya.Re.tiH3372the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and listenedוָאֶשְׁמַ֖עva.'esh.Ma'H8085to their voiceבְּקוֹלָֽם׃be.ko.LamH6963.

25Nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258therefore,pleaseנָ֖אna'H4994pardonH5545my sinחַטָּאתִ֑יcha.ta.TiH2403and returnוְשׁ֣וּבve.ShuvH7725with me, that I may worshipוְאֶֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖הve.'esh.ta.cha.VehH7812the Lordלַֽיהוָֽה׃la.Yah.wehH3068.”

26But Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586, “I will not returnאָשׁ֖וּב'a.ShuvH7725with you; foryou have rejectedמָאַ֙סְתָּה֙ma.'As.tahH3988the wordדְּבַ֣רde.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068has rejectedוַיִּמְאָסְךָ֣vai.yim.'a.se.KhaH3988you from beingמִהְי֥וֹתmih.YotH1961kingמֶ֖לֶךְMe.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סYis.ra.'ElH3478.”

27As Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050turnedוַיִּסֹּ֥בvai.yi.SoH5437to goלָלֶ֑כֶתla.Le.khetH1980, Saulseizedוַיַּחֲזֵ֥קvai.ya.cha.ZekH2388the edgeבִּכְנַף־bikh.naf-H3671of his robeמְעִיל֖וֹme.'i.LoH4598,and it toreוַיִּקָּרַֽע׃vai.yi.ka.Ra'H7167.

28So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “The Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068has tornקָרַ֨עka.Ra'H7167the kingdomמַמְלְכ֧וּתmam.le.KhutH4468of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478from you todayהַיּ֑וֹםhai.YomH3117and has givenוּנְתָנָ֕הּu.ne.ta.NahH5414it to your neighborלְרֵעֲךָ֖le.re.'a.KhaH7453,who is betterהַטּ֥וֹבha.TovH2896thanמִמֶּֽךָּ׃mi.Me.kaH4480you.

29Alsoוְגַם֙ve.GamH1571theGloryנֵ֣צַחNe.tzachH5331of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478will not lieיְשַׁקֵּ֖רye.sha.KerH8266or changeH5162His mindH5162;for He is not a manאָדָ֛ם'a.DamH120that He should changeH5162His mindH5162.”

30Then he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I have sinnedחָטָ֔אתִיcha.Ta.tiH2398; butpleaseנָ֛אna'H4994honorכַּבְּדֵ֥נִיka.be.De.niH3513me nowעַתָּ֗ה'a.TahH6258beforeנֶ֥גֶדNe.gedH5048the eldersזִקְנֵֽי־zik.nei-H2205of my peopleעַמִּ֖י'a.MiH5971and beforeוְנֶ֣גֶדve.Ne.gedH5048Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and goH7725backH7725with me,that I may worshipוְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֵ֖יתִיve.hish.ta.cha.Vei.tiH7812the Lordלַֽיהוָ֥הla.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃'e.lo.Hei.khaH430.”

31So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050wentH7725backוַיָּ֥שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725followingאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586,and Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586worshipedוַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּvai.yish.Ta.chuH7812the Lordלַֽיהוָֽה׃ סla.Yah.wehH3068.

32Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֗לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Bringהַגִּ֤ישׁוּha.Gi.shuH5066me Agagאֲגַג֙'a.GagH90,the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵ֔ק'a.ma.LekH6002.”And Agagאֲגַ֖ג'a.GagH90cameוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to himcheerfullyמַעֲדַנֹּ֑תma.'a.da.NotH4575.And Agagאֲגָ֔ג'a.GagH90saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Surelyאָכֵ֖ן'a.KhenH403the bitternessמַר־mar-H4751of deathהַמָּֽוֶת׃ סha.Ma.vetH4194is pastסָ֥רsarH5493.”

33But Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “As your swordחַרְבֶּ֔ךָchar.Be.khaH2719has madeH7921womenנָשִׁים֙na.ShimH802childlessH7921,soכֵּן־ken-H3651shall your motherאִמֶּ֑ךָ'i.Me.khaH517be childlessH7921amongH4480womenמִנָּשִׁ֖יםmi.na.ShimH802.”And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֧לshe.mu.'ElH8050hewedH8158Agagאֲגָ֛ג'a.GagH90to piecesH8158beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068at Gilgalבַּגִּלְגָּֽל׃ סba.gil.GalH1537.

34Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980toRamahהָרָמָ֑תָהha.ra.Ma.tahH7414,but Saulוְשָׁא֛וּלve.sha.'UlH7586wentעָלָ֥ה'a.LahH5927up to his houseבֵּית֖וֹbei.ToH1004atGibeahגִּבְעַ֥תgiv.'AtH1390of Saulשָׁאֽוּל׃sha.'UlH7586.

35Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֜לshe.mu.'ElH8050didH3254not seeלִרְא֤וֹתlir.'otH7200Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586againH3254untilעַד־'ad-H5704the dayי֣וֹםYomH3117of his deathמוֹת֔וֹmo.ToH4194;for Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050grievedהִתְאַבֵּ֥לhit.'a.BelH56overאֶל־'el-H413Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586.And the Lordוַיהוָ֣הva.Yah.wehH3068regrettedנִחָ֔םni.ChamH5162that He had madeH4427Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586kingהִמְלִ֥יךְhim.LikhH4427overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ פYis.ra.'ElH3478.
