Matthew 3:4-11
4Now John himself had 12a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was 3locusts and wild honey. 5Then Jerusalem 4was going out to him, and all Judea and all 5the district around the Jordan; 6and they were being 6baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins.
7But when he saw many of the 7Pharisees and 8Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You 9brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from 10the wrath to come? 811Therefore bear fruit 12in keeping with repentance; 9and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, ‘13We have Abraham for our father’; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham. 10The 14axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore 15every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
11“As for me, 16I baptize you 17with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; 18He will baptize you 19with the Holy Spirit and fire.
